Saving money on food while traveling in the US
When we go on vacation to the beach, the grocery store options are limited or not in close proximity. We would rather spend money on a fun excursion than on paying twice the amount on our groceries for the week.
Plan
Plan most of your meals: what will you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Which items are pricier and which items do you already have in your pantry

Bring
Bring your staples and more expensive items from home: I usually do a quick run at Aldi for items I know will be cheaper there and I also buy items so as steaks or what we plan to grill where I can find them for a good deal. I also bring pantry items such as ingredients for my salad dressing, cake mix and snacks. These often will be more expensive at the beach
Prepare
Prepare a few meals in advance to save money and time. I usually prepare a lasagna and a Boston butt (for delicious sandwiches). If you time it right, you can find Boston butt for as low as $.88 a pound but I consider anything less than $2/lb a decent deal. Stock up if you find them for less than a dollar a pound though!
