Get dressed formula
How does an outfit come together? My thought process usually starts with one item. Sometimes I want to wear a particular pair of earrings, or a top or a pair of shoes. I like to create different outfits and while I sometimes repeat a particular outfit, since I take a picture of my daily outfit for my Instagram feed, I really try to be creative and at least change something. Here is an example:
I love the combo of the striped shirt with the vest but I created a new look by changing the shoes and the earrings.
Today I am sharing the process for one of my weekend outfits. This was going to be a rainy and windy Saturday and we had not real plans. My husband and I did end up having a midday date sans kids walking downtown our little town and having a glass of wine at one of the local Olive Tree shops. tI sells specialty olive oils and vinegar, has a wine tasting area and a coffee shop. The outfit turned out to be perfect for the day.
For this particular Saturday, I wanted to wear the leopard blouse my sister in law gave me. I had worn it once before.
So this day, I decided to go for a different pair of jeans and chose my black jeans. I wore the same pair of grey booties since they coordinate with the tee and I did not want to wear heels nor riding boots.
I then decided that I wanted a topper even though it was going to be 70 degrees (yes, 70 in January, even for Georgia, that is a little warm!). I chose my favorite jean jacket!
Next came the earrings: I typically wear one of my Nickel and Suede earrings and this day was no different. I do have a dozen pairs so I did have some choices, the most obvious being a silver pair (see first outfit with the leopard print tee) or a black pair. Since I hadn’t worn that pair in a while, that is the one I chose.
This was an interesting day to take pictures: the wind was wild and crazy and my son had to take pictures at the right moment because my hair was going crazy. I really need to start a folder of blooper pictures for you all to share some laughs!
As you probably have seen in my feed I try to look put together most days. Even though I am a stay at home mom whose most exciting outing is a trip to the grocery store, it makes me feel good to dress cute every day. I have fun creating new outfits and lately love the challenge of shopping my closet instead of Amazon and Target. I am in the process of creating an Excel sheet to track my cost per wear for most of my wardrobe as inspired by Grace of Graceful Rags.
So there you have it, how I usually come up with an outfit!

Not shopping this month is helping me be more creative!

I enjoyed reading how you put outfits together Mirielle. I too often start with my accessories . Good idea documenting each outfit, a challenge maybe I should try.

I like how your denim jacket lightens up your whole look. I can’t believe you’re going to start a spreadsheet for your clothing wears. Mind blown.

I added all the clothes I remembered the prices for, estimated some. Very interesting to see the patterns.

Loving that jean jacket look! I too am a stay at home mom and also find it important to get dressed in somewhat pretty clothes every day where I can be ready to leave the house any minute. It’s truly what keeps me going! I am so much more productive in my daily activities that way!

Exactly! I do more if I am dressed cute vs staying in lounge clothes all day.

I love all three ensembles, but my favorite of them all is the second. Can’t stop loving khaki skinnies paired with booties. You look fantastic 🙂

I can totally relate. Sometimes it depends on what we are doing, but many times I’m working on outfits for Instagram or the blog. Lately I’ve been wearing my leopard pants because there will be a blog post about them and styling them 5 different ways.

I know, sometimes I do wear something because I want my son to photograph it for the blog.

I enjoyed reading about the process in choosing your outfits. I agree it is always a good plan to make an effort in how you dress on a daily basis, you feel so much better. Love the light denim jacket over the animal print.

Great tips! It’s much easier to have a starting point with one item and go from there! I love the outfits with your pink vest!
mimifce
It does! Sometimes, I have a whole outfit in mind others just one piece I know I want to wear.

I love the edgy vibe to this look! I usually plan my outfits around shoes. I’ve never thought about tracking cost per wear and need to check out that speadsheet!

Thanks, jill! Grace’s instructions made it so easy and I am really enjoy seeing how the numbers change. It also helps me realize that it is ok for me to spend more money on certain items because I definitely wear them. Learning my spending/wearing patterns has given some good insights.

I definitely have a formula that I stick to. Both of these looks are so pretty, I love the stripes and leopard prints!

Hi Mirielle
I always like hearing about how people style their outfits. Love the earrings and how just changing shoes and accessories really change a look. What a cute pink quilted vest!

So many cute looks Mireille!! I love the pink vest with the stripes. I’ve never really thought about the process of putting an outfit together, but your ideas are exactly what I do. It’s fun to think about! Also, that sounds like such a fun date in your town. 🙂

It’s always really interesting to see what inspires an outfit. I like the pale blue denim jacket, change from the usual dark blue or black. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday Mireille.

Thanks, Gail! It was worth the price for me since I have already worn it several times, and I know I will wear it in the spring too.

Super cute, Mireille! I am like you. Even though I stay at home and generally really only leave the house to take the kids to school and then go shoot some outfit photos, I still like to be put together. Otherwise, I would just flop on the couch and do nothing all day! I also try to change a few things up if I wear the same outfit more than once. I have always been that way for long as I can remember, long before fashion blogging and even internet. Thanks for linking up!

So interesting seeing how you pull an outfit together! I like to to do the same thing too – I’ll look at the way I last wore something and change a few details so it’s a whole new outfit without a lot of effort! outfit formulas are so good for that!
Hope that your week is off to a good start! We had a relaxing day today with the public holiday 🙂 Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!

Nice! Extra days off are always nice.
