Get dressed formula

How does an outfit come together? My thought process usually starts with one item. Sometimes I want to wear a particular pair of earrings, or a top or a pair of shoes. I like to create different outfits and while I sometimes repeat a particular outfit, since I take a picture of my daily outfit for my Instagram feed, I really try to be creative and at least change something. Here is an example:

I love the combo of the striped shirt with the vest but I created a new look by changing the shoes and the earrings.

Today I am sharing the process for one of my weekend outfits. This was going to be a rainy and windy Saturday and we had not real plans. My husband and I did end up having a midday date sans kids walking downtown our little town and having a glass of wine at one of the local Olive Tree shops. tI sells specialty olive oils and vinegar, has a wine tasting area and a coffee shop. The outfit turned out to be perfect for the day.

For this particular Saturday, I wanted to wear the leopard blouse my sister in law gave me. I had worn it once before.

So this day, I decided to go for a different pair of jeans and chose my black jeans. I wore the same pair of grey booties since they coordinate with the tee and I did not want to wear heels nor riding boots.

I then decided that I wanted a topper even though it was going to be 70 degrees (yes, 70 in January, even for Georgia, that is a little warm!). I chose my favorite jean jacket!

Next came the earrings: I typically wear one of my Nickel and Suede earrings and this day was no different. I do have a dozen pairs so I did have some choices, the most obvious being a silver pair (see first outfit with the leopard print tee) or a black pair. Since I hadn’t worn that pair in a while, that is the one I chose.

This was an interesting day to take pictures: the wind was wild and crazy and my son had to take pictures at the right moment because my hair was going crazy. I really need to start a folder of blooper pictures for you all to share some laughs!

As you probably have seen in my feed I try to look put together most days. Even though I am a stay at home mom whose most exciting outing is a trip to the grocery store, it makes me feel good to dress cute every day. I have fun creating new outfits and lately love the challenge of shopping my closet instead of Amazon and Target. I am in the process of creating an Excel sheet to track my cost per wear for most of my wardrobe as inspired by Grace of Graceful Rags.

So there you have it, how I usually come up with an outfit!
