My closet: then and now

In the past month, I have been in a purging mode even more than usual. In an attempt to curb my shopping, I am shopping my closet. I have realized over the past year that less is oftentimes more. Having an organized, uncluttered closet allows you to see what you have. I am very lucky to have a large walk in closet that I do not have to share. It is large enough that I do not use all of the hanging space.

I wanted to share some pictures of what my closet looked like in March of last year in an earlier post called Finding Inspiration for Outfits. My closet doesn’t look very different now but I did change the locations of several things, got rid of some clothes and bought some new clothes. Because I have purged the clothes that I really didn’t like much or didn’t wear, I probably have the same amount of clothes. However, now I really love or like the items that have made it through the purging.

This part of the closet looks very similar. I have added a couple cardigans and some shirts as well as some vests. Sharing my daily outfits on Instagram is my outfit diary. It reminds me about certain pieces, helps me create new combinations or reminds me that I really like certain pieces. It also helps me realize what doesn’t work!

Then: purses, sweaters, jackets and dresses

I have added a couple jackets (for some reason they are my weakness) but have gotten rid of several purses. As I decide whether an item stays or goes, I am learning more about my style and my dislikes. I do not like bags that are too large or unstructured (I have a couple totes but they are structured).  I prefer crossbody purses because they practical with children. I also really do not like how button down shirts look like on me. I am larger chested and either they are too small and pull accross the chest or are too baggy and add weight to my frame. I have kept only a few plaid shirts that I like to wear as layers and gave my 2 chambray/denim shirts to my mom.

I moved the boots to another part of the closet and put my straw baskets under my shoes. I love my new straw baskets! Two are from France and I will get a few more next time we go! I have added several pairs of shoes since last year and really haven’t gotten rid of any. What can I say? I like shoes! I am seeing a pattern of buying better quality shoes that are a little more expensive but as I am realizing with my cost per wear spreadsheet: it is worth spending the extra money if I really love them and if I will wear them for several years to come.

A bientôt!
