Date night outfit
Last week, my husband’s uncle took us out to the Westin Sundial restaurant in downtown Atlanta. I will spend a little time sharing about our experience there in Wedsnesday’s post but today, I wanted to share about my outfit. The pictures were mostly taken at my house so the background is not very pretty but I wanted to share how you can shop your closet to create a fun date night look.
I actually have not been doing so well with trying to be careful with my spending lately. While I am sticking to my list (I wanted to add skirts to my closet and that is what I purchased last), I have not stuck to my timeline. So I will start a little no Amazon and no clothes challenge which for me will match up timewise with lent. I hope that giving myself a purpose or a reason not to spend will help me more successful. In its place, I will try to focus on other things than adding material things to the house during lent and I am going to try to focus on the spirit of giving time to others, be more compassionate, almsgiving and such.
Back to the outfit though! I will start with the pretty picture that we took in the glass elevator at the hotel. The restaurant is on the 73rd floor of the hotel and has beautiful views of the city.
I do not have many fancy clothes in my closet since we do not have much occasion to go to parties or fancy dinners. There is no dress code for this restaurant but I wanted to mark the occasion with a special outfit. My first decision was which dress to wear.
This dress was the dressiest dress in my closet. I love the neckline and even though it is winter now, the weather was going to be mild but a little rainy. I chose to wear leggings under the dress for warmth as well as for comfort: I did not have to worry about how short the dress was since I would be modest with the leggings.
I was just glad I still fit in this dress: it has been probably been a few years since I wore it last. My Vince Camuto booties are my dressier winter shoes and I love that I can walk comfortably in them despite the height. We ended up walking a couple of blocks to the hotel even though we could have parked right accross the street for the same price.
A little makeup and some shiny earrings and that is as good as it gets for this mom of 4 shopping my closet and not spending a dime. I am wearing my beloved green “leather” jacket.
I will leave you with a funny observation from my 9 year old son. Now remember that I really never wear any makeup and the only makeup I wore this particular evening was mascara, eye shadow and eyeliner. This is is what he said: “why are you wearing so much makeup? You look freaky!”. Nothing like your child to boost your confidence!
We had a lovely evening and it was really nice to go out and me adults and not just mom and dad.
A bientôt!

Such a great date night look! Love the criss cross detail on the dress! Kids do say funny things, but your makeup looks great! I love how you still kept it natural!

I only own eye makeup at this point and only 1 mascara, 1 eye shadow palette with 3 colors and 1 eyeliner, lol!

You look so pretty! While your son’s comment was funny, I disagree – the makeup looks great! The dress is fun too, especially the strappy neckline, and your boots are seriously stylish. Glad you had a fun night!

Thanks, Grace! My hubby didn’t notice the make up on the other hand, lol! I have enjoyed wearing those booties more than I thought. I have a tank with a similar neckline and I love it.

Kids say the darndest things Mireille. It’s just he’s not used to you wearing any makeup, so even a little is a lot to him I bet.
I love this dress on you!!

I like how you have styled this for cooler weather. It will look great for summer too. Roll on that better weather! xx

Yes! I am a little tired of the constant rain here and am looking forward to fairer weather.

LOL. You do not look freaky but I hear similar things from my boys when I dress up too. They’re just not used to seeing me with makeup and my hair all done up. That neckline on your dress is so neat and I love how you made something so summery feeling work for this time of year.

It was the dressiest I had (I do have another dress that is dressy, a maxi halter but summery too) and the material of this one was thicker, kind of like scuba gear so it was somewhat warm.

Gosh, nothing like brutal honesty from your children! The dress was a nice selection, the neckline makes it look special. So glad you had a fun night out!

Mireille, this dress is so cool! I love the print and the fun neckline and it looks so great with booties and moto jacket! I am the opposite with makeup and almost always wear it. There was a time when my kids were younger where they never saw me without makeup and one time I had just gotten out of the shower and was sitting in my bathrobe on my bed. Archie was about 3 and he climbed up on my lap, looked closely at my face, grimaced a little in confusion and said, ‘Mommy, go put your regular face on now.” Thanks, kid! LOL.

That is a funny story! It’s funny how they are used to something and anything different gets their two cents! I had one of the boys say something about my bottom wiggling once!
