Creating Artistic Outfits: Finding my Inner Artist
Last month, my friend Jodie shared ways to pull a color from a print to create an outfit. One of her sentences in her post really stood out to me “this is how outfits feel artistic instead of accidental” and it made me realize that Jodie creates art with fashion when she puts together outfits. Here is her blog post and yes, her outfit is definitely a really cool piece of walking art. She creates wonderful canvases of colors in patterns through her outfits. While my style tends to be more subdued and a mixture of boho and classic pieces, I do love to have fun with outfits too and create something different. So when I read her post, she inspired me to dabble and I decided to choose a few pieces in my closet to create some walking pieces of art.
Artsy Monochromatic

I have worn this beautiful blouse several times this year, and I wanted to create a monochromatic look with it and add a little sparkle so it wouldn’t be too subdued. I usually wear that “necklace as a belt. I love all of the different textures, the lace, the raffia shoes, the wool vest.
Edgy Textured Look

I wore an outfit with this top that I love, and I am pretty sure I cannot top it (here it is), but decided to try an edgy/bohemian look with it. I love playing with textures and this outfit combines faux leather, faux suede and a flowy kimono!
Corset

When I thrifted this faux suede corset a year or so ago, I at first styled it on its own and I wasn’t sure if it had been a good purchase. However, when I realized how great of a layering piece it was, I have reached for it over and over. Today’s outfit combines a few colors for some fun and reminded me I should keep my eyes out for more corset tops while thrifting.
Color!

I bought these fun cactus earrings while on our little overnight trip a few weeks ago, and decided it could be the inspiration for an outfit: so here is a fun colorful outfit on a cooler day last week!
Tulle Wonderland

This tulle overlay comes in handy when wanting to create fun outfits! Here are three of my favorites fun looks with it and a new one I wanted to wear, but then I lacked the confidence and it the weather turned too warm to wear it. I layered a polka dot skirt under, and two tops over!

I think any form of personal expression is art so fashion definitely falls into that category for most of us.

I definitely have a range of creativity in my outfits.

I’m not a “beige” person, but I really like the first outfit, a great combo!

Thank you! It was fun to add different textures.

I think its great that you enjoy and have fun putting your outfits together. I never thought of outfits as art but I see how it makes sense. I am a color lover so the blue teal sweather and purple skirt call out to me.
mimifce
Yes, those two colors together made for a fun outfit.

Have you ever tried to wear that commono upside down?Because I bet it might look cute cropped that way.

All great looks. That corset outfit is my favourite. I think they are super perfect for layering indeed.

Thanks, Nancy! It was one I enjoyed wearing.

Oh wow, that first outfit is amazing – just love it. I do think dressing up releases the inner artist, so that was a great challenge 🙂

I am picking up some Jodie vibes in some of these layered looks. Very creative and artistic, indeed!! Love the first look – the monochromatic ivory/beige/tan – whatever you call it. I like the contrast between the more masculine camo print with the lacy textures of the blouse and shoes.
My favorite, though, is the aqua and purple sweater and skirt outfit. Goodness, you wear color so well. Your whole face lights up with that blue. And check out your legs!! You look like a teenager with those well shaped, toned legs!! Darling, flirty fun.

Thanks, Leslie! It was fun to try out some different things. I do love that aqua sweater a lot!

That corset look is killer – I love how you styled a “sexy” piece in a menswear-inspired, sporty casual look!

I know: I have been surprised how much I like it as a layering piece.
