March in Review
I usually like to dedicate my Wednesdays post to travel or fun outings we have made as a family but since those are not happening at this time, I thought I would look back at March since there were a few happenings.
1 Year Blogiversary
First came my blog 1st year anniversary. I was quite happy that people still continue to read my blog and that I am still having fun writing it. You can read my blogiversary posts here, here and here. I share my 3 favorite fashion posts, my 3 favorite travel posts and my giveaway wins from Instagram and blogs.
My oldest son’s school award
I was a little disappointed that my son was unable to receive his Hurricane Hero award from his school as the schools closed 2 days before the award ceremony. I was also looking forward to the 8th grade award ceremony in May too and am wondering if they will maybe sent out awards in the mail. It is always a nice surprise to see which ones he gets. The Hurricane Hero award is awarded each semester and is chosen by a teacher or staff member recognizing the positive impact a child has on the school. I just told my son he should ask his homeroom teacher who nominated him since he would have learned that at the recognition ceremony.

It actually has been going well and we have had 3 weeks now. This week we are on spring break. Children will have 6 more weeks before summer break which I hope will be a return to a more normal life. Summertime gets really hot and humid here and being outdoors is not pleasant till evening time so the pool time would be a big plus. My two older kids (13 and 9) are independent with their work and my 6 year old just needs a little direction (his work takes usually about 30 minutes or so). I am very grateful that they are either on level or above level in their classes so they do not struggle with school work. My oldest is actually a little bored this week because he doesn’t have any work. I am very grateful for our school system and the kids’ teachers that have been involved and helpful.
We do spend a lot of time outdoors taking advantage of the weather as it has been mostly sunny and mild. It does get hot in the afternoon so we take that time to play on electronics or play indoors. We all are starting to tan and I had to order some sunscreen.
Home Organization
I actually had been going through my whole house before Covid 19 affected our lives so I have had much to declutter. I did make some improvements to 2 of the boys bedrooms by moving around some things and ordering a few things from Target. I shared those in these posts here and here.
That mostly sums up our month of March. All in all I am very grateful for God providing for our family, for the nice weather and for things going smoothly at home. Like everyone I get antsy and cabin feverish every so often but I know that eventually we should be able to vacation and travel and get back to our more regular routines.
A bientôt!

A great look back at March. This school year is definitely challenging but I too am so thankful that the teachers are making every effort to keep going and I am thankful my kids do all their work without any issues.
My son was supposed to take the SAT test this month, I wonder if they will take it in the fall or what…It’s definitely a challenge for high school juniors (and of course the seniors – many were able to graduate early), but I am sure everything will be falling into place eventually.

I know they are not doing any standardized testing so yes, maybe in the fall. My son is taking 2 high school classes or 3 so I am wonder about those end of year tests for those subjects.

Happy Blog Anniversary and congrats to your son! My youngest is also in 8th grade so I’m not sure what will happen with awards. They weren’t getting out until June. We’ll see!

Thanks, Kate! We are just curious now as to who had nominated him. He always wonders why he gets some of these awards so it is kind of funny.

It is disappointing when so many events had to be cancelled. But you’re right in saying that we should be grateful about so much.
Happy blogaversary.

We are one of the blessed ones to not have much change in our lives apart from being stuck home.

Enjoy your Spring break! Our Spring break was the first week of the entire ‘stay at home
and now we are on our third week of online schooling. I have been thankful for nice weather as well! I’m wondering what they’ll be doing for my son’s 8th grade with graduation, etc. Guess we’ll find out in time!

One of my favorite event of mine for my oldest is the awards ceremony because he keeps his grades so high. Hopefully they come up with something to recognize the kids.

That is nice your kids are so independent with their work! We’ve tried to structure our oldest daughter’s day so she has creative time breaks and recess outside because she does much better with structured days. I’m hoping it warms up here soon so we can spend more time outside, and I hope we don’t miss out on pool season! We belong to a neighborhood pool and don’t have our own. It would be such a bummer if we can’t go!

It’s the same with us with the pool: my oldest keeps asking how much it is to get a pool for our yard, lol!

It was definitely an interesting March for sure! 🙂 It’s good your kids are able to learn so independently. My 4 and 5 year old have been out of school for a couple of weeks but there is no learn at home plan yet (as the schools are on Easter break) so I am hoping helping them learn is a little easier when schools are back. Juggling keeping them learning and entertained while also working from home is a struggle!
Hope that you are having a nice week 🙂 We are enjoying the Easter break, at home of course.

We are definitely enjoying the no school this week of break. Much more relaxing!

Mireille, such a great post filled with so much positivity! Thank you for that. Congratulations to your son on his award. Even though he didn’t get to participate in a ceremony to receive it, it is still such a wonderful thing to be proud of. This distance learning thing is challenging with the little ones, but we are getting through it. I talked to Ralphie’s teacher yesterday and expressed concern that I wasn’t doing enough educational time with them. She said in the 7 hour school day, she probably only instructs for 2 hours with 20 kids, so if we are doing 1-2 hours a day of instruction one on one, we are way ahead of the game. That made me feel so much better! Thanks for sharing and linking up!

Oh, yes! Teaching one kids takes a lot less time than teaching a classroom full! My kindergarden does not spend more than 30-40 min and his 3rd grade brother takes about 2 hours. So yes, no worries. Right now it is more about them not losing what they have learned in the year. During summer I will have boys read 30 min during “quiet time” and do 10 min of math reviewing their math facts through games and worksheets. Just enough to reinforce what they know but not too much to wear they will fight me on it,
