Charleston, SC: Planning Food and Outfits
We are heading to Charleston at the end of the week and as I shared in this first trip planning post, we will have free lodging and breakfast and are planning mostly free or very inexpensive activities. Where we will be spending our money is with eating out! Charleston is well known for its low country dishes: shrimp and grits, she-crab soup, fried green tomatoes, corn bread, etc. To make the most of our trip, I searched family friendly restaurants that were recommended for their tasty meals.
Restaurants to Try
- Leon’s Oyster Shop
- Hen and the Goat
- Famalari’s Brewery and Pizza Co
- Fleet Landing Restaurant and Bar (fresh seafood, on the water)
- Tatttoed Moose (try the duck club)
- Amen Street Dish and Raw Bar
- The Glass Onion (soul food)
I will be reporting back on these restaurants. I wanted to be prepared this go around because on our trip to Savannah last year, we were wandering aimlessly and were not sure where to eat which caused me stress. I have found that planning with flexibility are important for my sanity!
To save money on impulse eating, I am bringing lots of snacks for the children! Hungry kids waiting for their next meal are not fun so I will be making a stop by Kroger and Aldi before our trip to pick up some snacks. We will be gone 4 nights and 5 days so my budget for food and activities is $650. I am hoping to go under but we shall see. I am not including gas in that budget but I am assuming we will use probably 3 tanks total which should average to about $75.
Outfit planning
The forecast as of right now shows some rain and temperatures in the mid seventies with lows in the mid sixties. I always check for changes before leaving as weather can be unpredictable and since we might do some activities near the water will plan on some layer and also some good walking shoes for more active activities.
Shoe choices:
I kept going back and forth on these: cute shoes but good for walking since we will be walking a lot, something a little more dressy for a nicer dinner out, how many should I bring.mHere are my final choices (I think!)
- booties (to go with dress or short walking distance)
- addidas sneakers (are good for walking but still trendy)
- snakeskin sneakers (to go with everything)
One Dress
This dress will be featured on next Monday fashion blog post!
Pants and Tops
- grey jeans
- blue jeans
- black joggers (great for more active day)
- 1 jean jacket
- 1 sweatshirt
- 1 sweater
- 4 tees
I will have a recap post of my outfits and see what work or didn’t work!
Accessories
These are always fun to add when packing and they do not take much space!
- 2 scarves
- 3 pairs of earrings
- 1 necklace
Can’t wait to enjoy some time away!
A bientôt!

Thanks, Ellibelle! We are looking forward to it even if I have to push my 2 year old in a stroller. Still not walking after hurting his foot!

This is going to be such a wonderful trip Mireille. I always like to have most things planned too. Yet I have to remember to be flexible at times….haha!!
I love that one of your shoe choices is snakeskin. Don’t they just go with everything??

I already had to edit my packing as it is going to rain some and be warmer than I hoped: switched the booties for a grey pair that would not better with water and leaving a sweatshirt behind. Tempted to get a pair of snakeskin booties at some point.

Ooh I love to see what people pack on trips, and I think you picked some great pieces! I like the mix of neutrals and colors/prints. I also just ordered those snakeskin sneakers from Target, I can’t wait to wear them!

The sneakers are really good. Maybe not as comfy as my Adidas but still very comfortable and give such a fun vibe with their pattern. Looks like it is going to be a hot vacay and some rain thrown in too!
Lovely
I can’t wait for your post! Have a fun trip.

It is exactly what I do when we are going to travel. I always check the restaurants around a place we stay because I want to get the best experience for not only what I see but also from I try. I love how you plan you budget on food and attractions. Next time I will try to do the same. Have a wonderful trip! And, please, show us your outfits!

I plan to do a blog post! Hopefully I get some good pics of the food since I am not so good with that! I still remember going to a French restaurant yea rs ago next to the market and loving their creme brulee!

It sounds like you have some fun planned. I love walking around quaint cities (and big ones, too). I like to pack scarves, too, it really changes things up. Looking forward to seeing your dress featured.

I love your in depth planning! $650 seems really reasonable for a family vacation of 4 nights and 5 days. I am going to be eager to read about your trip!

We definitely went over budget but that is ok in this instance since I was prepared. Hoping to get a post written tonight. Btw I sent you message on insta about my necklace. I broke it today. I can email you if that is easier.

I already read (and loved) your Charleston post and the wonderful food you enjoyed there! I love seeing how people pack for vacation because I am the absolute worst! I overpack to the point that I literally only wear about 20% of what I bring. I have gotten better creating travel capsule wardrobes, but it is still a struggle! Thanks for sharing this fun post and joining the Fall Wedding link party!

Thanks, Shelbee! Yes, I am getting better: last year’s beach trip at Thanksgiving was the worst so this year, I am checking the weather and not trying to force fall: I will pack a pair or two of shorts for when it warms up in the afternoons.
