Tennessee Aquarium: Fun Winter Outing

Last January, before everyone’s life changed in one way or another, our family took a short weekend trip to Chattanooga and one of our outings was at the Tennessee Aquarium. It wasn’t much more to add a year membership to our admission (with our family of 6, I think it was only 30 dollars more) but we ended up not going back till now. Thankfully, since the aquarium was closed for 3 months, they added 3 months to our membership so we will be able to go back a few more times till the end of May.

I had forgotten how enjoyable the aquarium was. It was a cold and windy day during Christmas break and an outing indoors was perfect. Having a membership we did not have to sign up for a time but others do so the place was not crowded. Most interactive spots were closed but the sting ray pool wasn’t probably because it is large and people can social distance easily. We really enjoyed this spot. We have been to different aquariums and zoos where you can either touch or feed the rays and we always enjoy the experience.

At the beach on Thanksgiving break, we were able to see some manta rays in the ocean. We love creatures sea or land!

This little feller was so much fun! He was the only penguin who was in the water and kept coming close to the glass and swimming and posing for us.

We laughed at a trio of penguins who were facing the wall near their door: I think they wanted to eat or go back in.

This penguin exhibit is pretty neat but we still think the St Louis one is the best: here the penguins are behind glass so you cannot hear them. At the St. Louis zoo, there is an open space so you can hear the penguins communicate and you can feel the temperature that they are accustomed to.

We are always interested in the sea creatures you do not see everywhere so we were glad the octopus was easy to spot this time!

Some creatures are just plain strange!

I will leave you with the cuttle fish. Next Wednesday, I will share a few more pictures. The jelly fish and the sea turtle also caught our attention!

I am looking forward to spring and getting back to some outdoor outings. We actually had a great time last spring taking advantage of pretty weather to visit state parks and nearby sites. I really want to do that again this spring. If it is not going to snow in Georgia this winter, spring might as well come!

A bientôt!
