Tennessee Aquarium: Fun Winter Outing
Last January, before everyone’s life changed in one way or another, our family took a short weekend trip to Chattanooga and one of our outings was at the Tennessee Aquarium. It wasn’t much more to add a year membership to our admission (with our family of 6, I think it was only 30 dollars more) but we ended up not going back till now. Thankfully, since the aquarium was closed for 3 months, they added 3 months to our membership so we will be able to go back a few more times till the end of May.
I had forgotten how enjoyable the aquarium was. It was a cold and windy day during Christmas break and an outing indoors was perfect. Having a membership we did not have to sign up for a time but others do so the place was not crowded. Most interactive spots were closed but the sting ray pool wasn’t probably because it is large and people can social distance easily. We really enjoyed this spot. We have been to different aquariums and zoos where you can either touch or feed the rays and we always enjoy the experience.
At the beach on Thanksgiving break, we were able to see some manta rays in the ocean. We love creatures sea or land!
This little feller was so much fun! He was the only penguin who was in the water and kept coming close to the glass and swimming and posing for us.
We laughed at a trio of penguins who were facing the wall near their door: I think they wanted to eat or go back in.
This penguin exhibit is pretty neat but we still think the St Louis one is the best: here the penguins are behind glass so you cannot hear them. At the St. Louis zoo, there is an open space so you can hear the penguins communicate and you can feel the temperature that they are accustomed to.
We are always interested in the sea creatures you do not see everywhere so we were glad the octopus was easy to spot this time!
Some creatures are just plain strange!
I will leave you with the cuttle fish. Next Wednesday, I will share a few more pictures. The jelly fish and the sea turtle also caught our attention!
I am looking forward to spring and getting back to some outdoor outings. We actually had a great time last spring taking advantage of pretty weather to visit state parks and nearby sites. I really want to do that again this spring. If it is not going to snow in Georgia this winter, spring might as well come!
A bientôt!

I always love visiting aquariums, zoos, science centers. So much fun for any age. Our little forestry farm is open and free in the winter, and although some animals aren’t around, its always a nice walk through in the winter and you see what you see.

This looks like so much fun! I feel like my kids are missing out because local aquariums and museums are closed right now due to restrictions. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy them this summer!

Very thankful here!

It looks so fun! We don’t have an aquarium near us but we did take the kids to one when we went to Sydney a couple years back and they loved it – may be worth the trip to one a few hours a way one day! I need to wait until my knee has healed enough to attempt the drive though!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂 The rain has stopped and it’s been sunny and warm since our 3 day lockdown was lifted which is nice 🙂

It is nice when it is cold or hot outside. Hope your knee heals all the way!

My husband is an aquarist and has been to this aquarium and loved it. These pics are wonderful! His company takes care of the aquariums at Bass Pro and Cabela’s in the same area.

That is a cool job! I was surprised how much I liked it after having visited the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, they are very different.

I just love checking out different aquariums! They are such a fun and educational way to pass the time. We often bought memberships when my boys were younger too because they usually weren’t much more money than a standard entrance fee and it gave us an incentive to get out and do more.

They sure how and since it is indoors great no matter the weather

This looks such a fun day out with your family. I always love penguins, they are such characters. Hopefully you will be able to visit again to take advantage of your membership.

Thanks, Jill! We have several little school breaks before May so I am sure I will.

We just got a new aquarium here and we went last winter. We might go back again in the Spring, because there is a carousel and some other things to do near it. I love the photos of the penguins you took!

Oh, really! If I end up traveling that way this summer, the boys and I will have to check it out. We skipped our visit to Kansas last year but may do it this year.

Those are some beautiful fish!

I went to the Georgia aquarium a few years ago and it was so much fun! What a great treasure to have in your backyard!

Kind of like a mini-vacay! I am a Tennessee girl. Lived in Bartlett, outside of Memphis, for years and my dad was in cancer research at St. Jude. I went to the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Love that part of the state. So pretty!!
Last time I was at an aquarium was in Ft. Worth with my daughter and granddaughter. For some reason, I was so sick the first 30 minutes. And then I got to feeling better. Really enjoyed the beauty of the underwater worlds. Your pics of the penguins are especially adorable!!

My aunt and uncle used to live in Forth Worth. I actually lived with them for a month there after having lived in France and Mexico and I was so homesick, I only lasted a month!

These photos are amazing, Mireille! I love aquariums! Aquatic creatures are so fascinating. I need to find an aquarium near me to take the boys. They have never been to one and I think they would really enjoy it. Thanks for linking with me.
