2021 Travel Plans

We were able to go on vacation a few times last year, choosing spots that offered outdoor activities and where we knew we would not be around too many people. That allowed us to spend quality time as a family and gave us a nice break from our daily routine. In these uncertain times, that is how I am planning this year’s vacations: no traveling abroad but taking advantage of what our nearby states have to offer.

Spring Break

My husband brought home a Southern Living magazine from the grocery store last week and while I had originally planned to spend a week in North Georgia for spring break, pictures of the arches in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Eastern Kentucky caugh my eye. It is under a 5 hour drive for us so that will be our destination. I will be taking the next month to brainstorm particular activities to do in the area which include caverns, hikes, distilleries and more. I also need to find a rental giving us access to all of these. I will be first googling the different spots we want to visit before checking out the rentals on VRBO.

Summer Break

I am hoping to roadtrip to Missouri to visit my two sets of friends who live within 1 hour of each other and stop in St Louis on the way. As far as our family vacation though, I am not sure about a location yet. I am going to take another look at that magazine! There are so many beautiful places in the South! With it being summer though, we will be looking at mountains vs beach! Too hot for that.

Thanksgiving Break

I am absolutely planning for us to go to the beach again for our Thanksgiving break. We all have enjoyed the tradition to get away and relax at the beach and the weather is usually really pleasantly warm but not too warm. Even a cold day at the beach is better than a cold day at home.

Are you making any plans to get away this year? Even a weekend away is good for everyone’s mental health!

We are still hesitant to make any plans as our state requires 10 day quarantine if we leave to go anywhere for more than 24 hours (and it’s really not a big enough state to vacation within the state!) However I keep checking our state travel page and the minute other states are on our “approved” list I will definitely be booking something!

These are great travel plans! I looked up Daniel Boone National Forest and it looks so pretty there, might have to add this destination to our travel bucket list! We’re less than 8 hours away so it’s closer than our usual summer vacations! Haven’t been to St. Louis since I was pregnant with my first born (over 18 years ago) but only live about 4 hours from there. I keep planning to visit the zoo there again, but somehow we never get around to actually doing it…

If St Louis is only 4 hours, I would definitely plan that! Zoo is free and so are many other things there! A great vacation destination on a budget!

Looks like you have some good plans in the works! We haven’t made any travel plans. Given our age, we feel it’s best to play it absolutely safe until the vaccines are in our arms. I’m hoping to be able to see Dan’s kids by next Fall.

Looks like you have some great plans and places to visit this year! Here we are still staying close to home – sadly travel between states isn’t the easiest thing here, when there are cases in other states our states shut the borders and you’d need to go through mandatory hotel quarantine to get back in, not fun, haha! We spent the summer holidays exploring trails and parks and mountains near us instead 🙂

Hope that your week is going well 🙂

All of these destinations sound great! Love that you have travel plans to look forward to every few months! As of now, the only plans we have is to help move our daughter home from college in May and then back in September. Hoping to plan a fun trip in between!

St. Louis would be fun!! That is my hometown and there is a lot to do here, even with the pandemic. I am trying to figure out summer plans, too. My daughter has dance nationals in Myrtle Beach and we are trying to figure out how to travel there safely with Covid.

I guess driving would be way to long of a drive! Myrtle beach would be a nice destination to visit after her competitions. Hope you figure out a way to do it and things are easier this summer.

Staycations are the safest option it seems and you have some fabulous choices Mireille. There’s so much beauty on our doorstep, it’s great to discover it.
