Summer Shorts and Kimono
A kimono with shorts is by no means a new idea! However, I wanted to show you how shopping your closet and updated a few items on a budget could help you create some new outfits. Last month, I decided to update my tank tops: after a few years, they had lost shape and my white ones were not so white anymore. I went onto the Target website and tried two styles and ended up liking these. I bought 4 tanks, this red/orange one, an olive one and then basic black and white. For $5 they can’t be beat especially that they were 5% off (and I used my Target card for an extra 5%).
I like the idea of a kimono as a completer piece, to give a little extra interest to an outfit but I typically do not wear them in the heat of summer as even they become unbearable in the heat and humidity. It can be pretty difficult to find the right clothes to wear in the summer in Georgia: sometimes shorts are not fun as your car seat burns your legs or any layer just makes you sweat buckets.
I’ve been wearing sneakers or these espadrilles a lot as I really could use a manicure. I really love these though as they are comfortable and the color is really fun. Sadly they are no longer available so I am glad I picked them up when I did! Wore this outfit to run some errands with the boys and go to the park (where I found a nice spot in the shade with my blanket).
I really enjoy going into my closet and not itching to shop. While I have bought more than I expected this year, I have filled a few holes and I think I am good to go for a while. Not making any promises but I have a goal in mind in regards to shopping. Sometimes I think about retirement, vacations and kids’ school and wonder why I am adding things to an online cart! It is all about balance of course but I am just saying that sometimes things are put back into perspective.
The kimono was feeling kind of blah untied so I went ahead and knotted it once adding a clear elastic band. No readjustment needed and the proportions were better.
Summer has now started and I am trying to find that balance of making sure the kids are entertained and letting them figure out what to do with themselves. Being a mama of sometimes is hard! Spending lots of time in prayer and try to parent each child as he needs it: different temperaments, different ages, different likes makes for an interesting journey. But I am finding it is never too late to be better and to learn and to create meaningful moments.
I never wear headbands but my sunglasses usually are my headband when not on my eyes. These ball earrings, you have seen many times and as much as I like the style, I just find a couple more pairs. The color combo of pink and orange is fun and should be the inspiration for an outfit!
A bientôt!

That green has been more versatile than I expected. Need to pair it with navy too.

I too tend to wear my sunglasses as a headband (all the time!). Your outfit is so cute.

Love the cool aqua blue color of your floral kimono, Mirielle, it really transforms a basic outfit! I also shed my layers when the temperature and humidity rise. It’s always nice to carry an extr layer along for going in and out of over air conditioned buildings, though! Have a great week!

I was surprised that the colors looked so good together.

This is such a fun summer look! Love how the kimono completes it, and I am really loving it tied. Thought it was a pretty blouse and not a kimono. Fun summer-y earrings too! And I agree, you can’t beat the price on those tanks!

Such a cute outfit, Mireille! I love the complementary colors and that bright orange shade is one of my favorites for the summertime. Your shoes are so cute, too! And those tank tops were such a steal.

That’s a great kimono. I especially love it with the red. And I adore it tied.

I love the bright colours of the tank and kimono together, and you know I agree with you a kimono is an awesome completer piece! 🙂 I like how you knotted yours 🙂
The tank sounds like a bargain too – I spent a while a few years back stocking up on bright tanks – I have quite a rainbow although I mostly just use them for layering under things – i really need to get them out and wear them on their own more often!
Thanks for joining the Weekday Wear Link Up!
Hope you have a great weekend ahead of you! It’s a fun one here with kids birthday parties 🙂

I think I might pick up a couple more. I really like the neckline and length and have been wearing them under something or on their own.

Gah, I love this outfit, Mireille! This color combination is so fun and what a beautiful kimono. I find that some of the shorter style kimonos look much better tied at the waist as well. And your photos are so adorable! I love how you are branching out with locations and poses!

Working on getting some variety in there! I am hoping to convince one of the boys to take some outfit pictures on the beach when we go to Tybee Island.

Great outfit! Living in Florida, I live in leggings or bermuda shorts and a tee.

Wearing a pair of bermuda shorts today and wanting another pair.
