June Sunday Showcase: Dressed up Tunic for Summer and Link Up
For this month’s showcase, Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) and I are dressing up our tunics. I think both of our tunics were advertised as dresses but for modesty’s sake we both wear them as tunics with leggings under them. Mine is from Old Navy and is about 3 years old but I have only worn it about 3 times usually for special occasions such as my anniversary date with my husband to a winery (here) and an award ceremony for my son. Each time I have dressed it up with pretty sandals.
This whole outfit is shopped from my closet and every single piece apart from the clutch is several years old. It is nice to buy pieces that last over the years even if they are inexpensive. I really like how choosing the right accessories dress up the look.
The clutch (which matches my shoes perfectly) was a gift from Ada, the sandals a find at TJMaxx about 5 years ago, the earrings a Christmas gift from my husband and the gold cuff an online find several years ago. Big and shiny can be tasteful!
I really like white capri leggings for summer and I wear this pair under a couple of shorter dresses. I have had them for years and haven’t had to replace them and if I remember correctly they are from Macy’s and Hue brand probably very similar to these.
We took these pictures at a park near our house and the 3 younger boys and a neighbor accompanied me. It was a lot of fun as there were several kinds of ducks, geese, a heron and two fishing birds as well as a multitude of turtles. Free entertainment for the win!
It had been a while since I had shot pictures here and for some reason my son gets tired of taking pictures at the Indian Mounds (even though it is gorgeous and green there) so I complied and took pictures here.
One of the things I like about this tunic (apart from the color and print of course) is that it does not fall down. While a little tight under the arm, it is gathered there with an elastic I think so it stays in place. Having a strapless bra has been a great thing this past year as I have been able to wear some different tops that I would have stayed away from before.
I still can’t get over this being described as a dress, lol! I haven’t dressed it down with jeans yet but I did take off the jewelry and changed the sandals for Converses after the pictures to stop at the playground. Adding denim I think would dress it down some.

This month, I chose Imogen’s post Why I decided to embrace my grey hair and become a silver Foxette. I really like how she showed the progression of her hair colors and cuts over the years (I am always amazed at how we look different with hair colors and cuts) and I love her current grey short hairstyle. Classy and pretty! As other have mentioned she also mentioned seeing how her color palette might change with this change. I am not sure I am ready to go grey yet as I have a 3 year old running around but as I approach fifty I might give it some thought. I currently only do hightlights about twice a year and my grey typically blends in with those blond highlights.

Did you notice Ada’s killer heels in the collage? Once again, accessories make a big impact on an outfit! A beautiful gold necklace, bracelet and earrings also those fun golden sunglasses dress up the casual tunic!

It’s a good idea to wear a very short dress as a tunic. The color suits you very well, and how kind of Ada to gift you the clutch! Approaching 50?? I thought you were a lot younger!
mimifce
Well, not that close to 50 yet but I am on the other side of 45 now: turning 46 in a few months!

Such a cute tunic on yoU! I love that bright yellow, it works well on you, and it looks great with the white leggings, so nice for spring! 🙂
Thank you for the link up.
Hope you’ve had a fun weekend! We had a busy one with kids birthday parties both days!

Sounds like a fun weekend! We took it easy and didn’t really plan much. We had fun playing soccer as a family this afternoon. Yes, that yellow is a good one which is one of the reasons I have kept it even if I don’t wear it much.

I love this tunic and I can see you wearing it a lot this summer. I’d love to see it with shorts possibly??? Or over a skirt??
The color is perfect on you Mireille,

Will see how it works with shorts. Thinking a longer pair. What I need is that pair of yours with the slight distressing.

I’m loving the yellow!

This is such a great warm weather outfit! I love this shade of yellow on you and the white leggings really make it super summery! I can’t beleive this was advertised as a dress either! I like short skirts and dresses but this one doesn’t even cover your private parts! I wrote a whole blog post about that a long time when I received a gifted “dress” for review. It was barely a top (not even tunic length) let alone a dress unless you are about 4’5″! In any event, this tunic is super fun and looks so great on you!

Exactly! I do love it as a tunic and need to come up with a post with different ways to wear it since I always pair it with white bottoms.

This is such a chic summer outfit! I love the colors and print of your tunic! I think it would look cute belted too!

Joanne
I love your tunic (though I would never have worn it as a dress either). What a pretty summer outfit.

Thanks, Joanne!

Thank you! I am realizing I should wear it more than once a year!

Mireille,
Isn’t wonderful how so many new options become available when we get creative? Like styling a “bit-too-short” dress like a tunic. You look fabulous in that bright and cheerful color as well as chicly modern.

I have been enjoying finding different ways to wear things even if it is just adding a belt. I think I will have another post with this tunic next month with different ways to style it.
Shauna
YES to tunics all summer long! I wear them so often, you’d think I don’t own anything else lol. Love this pretty and stunning yellow on you too!

That’s funny! I do like that they are not constricting and dress up leggings.

That’s a brilliant tunic and I like how you styled them! The yellow looks great on you!

That’s such a lovely tunic and I agree with you – it can’t be a dress, surely! Great colour – and my favourite 🙂

I love the snakeskin you added with your clutch and sandals! They really do match perfectly! What a great coincidence!

I know: it is pretty amazing!

I am all about the dress and leggings life. It’s too hot here in Florida otherwise. I like your duck photo too!
mimifce
Shorts often are too hot when going in the car so yes to dresses and skirts more often!

Thanks, Alexandra!
