Inspired by a Pair of Earrings
This blog post and outfit combines two ideas: I wanted to showcase this light weight jacket I have had for about 15 years and wanted to find a way to combine orange and pink in an outfit like in these earrings.
You may remember the earrings from my Monday post a few weeks ago (shorts and kimono) and that is when I decided to shop my closet to create a new to me outfit. This pretty “Paris” jacket just made its way back to my closet after I lent it to my mom for a few years. I do not remember when I bought it but if you scroll down, you can see a picture of me wearing it when my son was baptized about 14-15 years ago (the photo is black and white).
When looking for something orange I was immidiately drawn to my thrifted maxi skirt: I knew I would wear this outfit to church so length was a plus and the elastic waistband made sure I would be comfortable. To make sure I wouldn’t get too hot I wore a white $5 Target tank and folded up the sleeves since I think they might have shrunk over the years.
Added fun with my leopard wedges: these are last year’s from Target. They are comfortable but for some reason, I tend to twist my ankle in them. I am one month in of shopping my closet! It really feels good to try to change my focus from stuff right now. More than ever I want to work on making memories with my family and be creative with what I already own.
Of course, every other month, I try to slow down my shopping and shop my closet: those feelings really cycle back for me as I assess my budget and my closet but this go around I am trying to see how long I can stick to it. I have noticed that I haven’t donated as much this year meaning that what I have bought it the last couple of years has been smart buys. Less fast fashion and adding to landfill as more restyling.
Behind me is a privet tree/bush: at our previous house, we had a few small ones and they kept growing and we would cut them back over and over. My son was allergic to them which added to why I didn’t like them. But really it is kind of a pretty tree. Just not at our house!
So while orange and pink is not a color combination I would have thought of on my own, it is really a fun one. I am going to start taking notes of other ones and see how I can create something new out of my closet. I do not have every color in the rainbow but I do have a fairly colorful wardrobe so it should be a fun project.
And here is that picture of me wearing that jacket about 15 years ago!
A bientôt!

That orange maxi is so beautiful and the printed jacket is a great way to introduce some pink to it! it’s a really bold combo which you wear so well! 🙂
Good luck with your no fashion shop goals too! I made it 7 months one year, I’d like to do it again, but it’s always that after a no shop month or two I spot something the next month I have to have, haha! it’s nice I’m just buying one or two things instead of the massive hauls I had before though!
Hope you had a great weekend 🙂

I have no great expectation about my no shop: I always cave in and buy something! Thanks for the compliment: it was fun to try something different.

Thanks, Jacqui! I guess it hasn’t been worn that much so not laundered too much so the color still like new.

What a great idea to create an outfit around a piece of jewelry. I should try this sometime, as I have a lot of jewelry I rarely wear.
mimifce
It was kind of fun and I probably have a couple necklaces I could do this with.
