Fab 40s: Inspired by Fire: Red Dress 6 Ways
There is something really satisfying about knowing you have worn something many times and in different ways. A solid dress is a canvas with which you can play with accessories, layers and shoes and a dress with little extra details like this one is even more fun. This Target dress has been around for a couple of years now. At the time I wrote this post, it was only available in white and size medium and above. I did size up to a medium even though I usually size down in this brand because the bust was too tight in other sizes. The eyelet details, the ruffles, tassels and v-neck make it more special than a simple t shirt dress.
And it was just a perfect occasion for Ada to ask me to join the fabulous 40s ladies this week as I had already written this post for today and the theme is Fire! I will now be joining this group of lovely, creative ladies on the last Monday of the month as part of the Fab 40s group.
I love bright colors and red seems to be a good color for me so while this post might not be as creative as some of the ladies is fits perfectly in. After Ada asked me to joined in, I did add one more way to wear my dress inspired by fire colors by adding yellow.
Fiery Red and Flaming Yellow
What better place to take pictures for a Fire theme than by the firepit! Reds, oranges and yellow make me think of fire so I pulled out some yellow accessories to create a new look with my Target dress.
My Target yellow sandals from last year have been a comfortable buy that I like to add to many outfits for a pop of color. The beret, I never wear long since it is wool and makes my head itch!
White Belt and Striped Sandals
I wore this outfit on a weekday when I did not have too many errands. Dropped off the oldest to tennis camp, went to the park with the youngest and did a few things around the house. I thought the white and black theme was fun so I added my spotted cork earrings. I have really enjoyed these Steve Madden sandals as they are comfortable and not too high.
Casual with Sneakers
Dresses are always cute with the right sneakers. These Addidas are my go to most of the time. I added some tile bracelets for some color. I typically do not buy shoes unless they are on sale, especially if they are brand name and these were about $35 at the time.
Blue Jacket, Brown Belt and Sandals
I have worn belts more this past year than the last 10 years! Is is due to more people wearing them, dresses being made more oversized without a waist or just there being more choices? I am not sure, but I like how they can change up a look. This one belonged to another dress, years ago.
Blue Jacket, Purse and Sneakers
This is the same look as above but with a different shoe and purse: a simple swap create a new outfit!
Moto Jacket and Booties
You can pretty much winterize a dress by adding a different layer and shoe. Here my moto jacket and booties help this dress not look too summery. This would be a cute date night look in the fall!
More ideas:
- with a tee on top
- with a white denim jacket
- with accessories in another contrasting color (blue?)
- with a camo or olive jacket and boots in the fall
- with black leather jacket and edgy booties
I hope this has inspired you to look at your dresses in your closet in a different way!
And now for the other Fab 40s ladies!
Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks
Daenel always has me wanting to try new styles!
I love the tones in this apron dress and the necklace…
Bold and eye catching, it is beautiful!
Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood
Ada and I often think alike in terms of themes
and outfits so I was not surprised to see that we both are sweet little red dresses!
Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge
Shelbee is one of the most creative person I know it terms of fashion
and coming up with ideas for a theme. I love this outfit and I think I want to replicate it!
Suzy of The Grey Brunette
Suzy looks absolutely mesmerizing in this beautiful flowy off the shoulder dress.
She will be the belle of the ball at any event!

Mireille, first of all, I am so excited that you are joining us in this group! We have such a great time with our themes! Second, what a fun post to show this fabulous red dress styled in so many ways. I love, love, love that you added the yellow beret and yellow sandals for the fire theme. You look just like a flame standing on your fire pit! I was wishing I had a fire pit when I took my photos for this one! This little red dress of yours is so fun, by the way. And red really is a superb color on you, my friend! Beautiful styling!

Love your red tiered dress, Mireille! The tassels are a fun touch. I like all of your outfits, but especially with the navy jacket. I am always on the lookout for the Perfect Red Dress!

You nailed this post with so many great options and then even more suggestions at the end. I really enjoyed your playful flamingo pose and my favourite was probably the stripped sandals look, although I enjoyed them all. I just live how this dress can really end up going the distance if you are creative like you.

Thank you! No, my best friend did! She has been coming back to her drawings and painting and asked me if I wanted her to do a watercolor of me! I thought it was perfect as my new blog theme. I wrote a post about her a few weeks ago! Thanks for stopping by!
Midlife and Beyond
This is such a versatile dress. I love the various ways you have styled it, dressing up then adding footwear to change the theme. I can’t believe I don’t have one red dress in my wardrobe, only a red patterned skirt. I’m going to have a look in the sales as it’s such a wardrobe staple.
mimifce
I sure have worn it more than I expected!
Alexandra
So many great ways to wear it! I think my favorite is with the moto jacket.

That is such a cute red dress for summer – definitely a good buy! And I love how it meets the theme so well! i think with the bright yellow is one of my favourite outfits – although it looks good each way you have styled it. I love red and yellow but don’t wear them nearly enough together!
Hope you are having a lovely week 🙂

I did like it with yellow too and that was such a last minute addition. Going to wear it again probably a few times this summer!
Jill
You know I love seeing a piece styled multiple ways! The first outfit with the yellow details is my favorite!

Yes! I really had to figure out which size to get for it to work on me and while I don’t usually go for more voluminous tops, I have really enjoyed the dress.
