Fainting Goat Winery in Jasper, GA: Staycation

Last year, for our anniversary, my husband and I spent a few hours at the Fainting Goat Winery (read post here). For our last adventure with my brother and family (as well as my parents), we decided to take them there as I knew even the boys would enjoy it. Our visit did not disappoint. Once again, I packed a lunch and my brother treated us to a bottle of wine and a charcuterie tray.

This is how much wine I had: I have never been much of a wine drinker and rather enjoy fruity drinks and wine coolers. I love the fun logo of the fainting goat. Of course, they do have a few goats on the property with a couple of Pyreenees dogs.

The main reason I like this particular winery and have not visited another one yet in the area is because of the view. The vineyards are on a hill and the views are really pretty and peaceful. I kind of ignored the family and enjoyed myself, sitting on my own facing the view as well as laying on our picnic blanket. The winery added a lot more tables and sun umbrellas (very classy in black and white) and by the time we left the place was packed. You still felt like you had space which is great in this Covid times and since we got there just as it opened we had a great spot.

The boys had fun (except my oldest who was having an allergic reaction to ragweed, poor kid!) and played with other kids as well as each other. One of mine pretended to be a goat for an hour! They felt safe the whole while as the area is large and the road up to the winery was not a main road.

Last time they saw grapes on a vine was in the Republic of Georgia 3 years ago! The 2 youngest probably don’t remember that! It was interesting to see that the rows were covered, I am assuming to prevent birds from getting to them (there is also a fence around the vineyards).

We all thought that the crow kites were a genius idea as they fly around attached to the poles and scare away little birds and such. Bonus is you can see which way the wind is blowing.

Successful mission: family time (granted I was a loner but that is exactly what I needed), the boys enjoyed their daddy’s stories and hanging out with their grandparents, uncle and aunt and playing by themselves, pretty views, good wine and food and a great fall day afternoon! Day 1 of our small fall break was a winner! I also did a 5K that morning with my 10 year old and we both placed, more on that at some point this month!

Till our next adventure!

A bientôt!
