Evening Walk: Cotton and Sunset
I finally managed to take a walk before the sunset by the cotton fields. The fields finally bloomed (much later this year) and I pass them everyday wanting to capture some of the beauty. The fields look really cool when it is foggy, at sunset and early morning. It really looks like snow from afar. I am grateful everyday for where we live and how we get a touch of country life as we drive to school.
I saw one of my friends walking ahead with her puppy (not so little doberman) and her neighbor so I jogged and joined them on their walk. It was fun to see how Jet (her dog) had improved his walk behavior since we had walked last earlier this year. He has been going to training school!
Cotton is an interesting plant. The primary fiber is the main reason for growing cotton. The seeds are used for animal feed and human use (cottonseed oil). The plant stalks are tilled back in the soil after harvesting. The seeds are planted in the spring and harvested in the fall. It takes about five to six months for the plant to mature and the bolls to open for harvesting (source: https://barnhardtcotton.net/blog/16-facts-about-cotton-that-you-dont-know/).
It was a perfect fall evening with blue sky, cool temps and beautiful sunset. I exercised a little too much for a couple of weeks and I have been trying to lay off the running to make sure I don’t get shin splints. I am still walking and hiking. I came here on this evening instead of joining the running club and no regrets.
There are also fields of sod and that is another interesting set up: they grow it, cut it in squares of sod and then they grow it again several times. A pretty cool crop! Another thing we see lot of is bales of hay as that is another common crop in several fields too.
I have been trying to walk earlier several times a week so that I can be back at the house to make sure I don’t skip the children’s bedtime routine. Since I walk most days with my friend and neighbor, we have to work with both of our schedules, dinner times and kids activities!
This is where I took the pictures for my Fab 40s blog post last week. It is funny how it looks different at different time of the day but it is always beautiful. I love these trees!
Ended my walk and was back home for a relaxing evening. This was such a nice day! I love every part of fall!
Have a lovely day and enjoy nature!
A bientôt!

Such beautiful photos and so interesting to read about the cotton. I walk most evenings but my views are not as beautiful as yours!

I think we all love others different landscapes. When we visited Arizona we were in awe of the cacti but people living there were in awe of our trees and landscape.

Hello,
With these pictures you get the desire for a very long evening walk. However, it is already very dark in Germany at 06:00 p.m.

Next week, with the time change, it will be too dark at that time and I will have to try to go around 5 if I want to see the pretty sunsets.

The time of evening was just perfect! Even if it is the only time this fall that I make it there at that time, I am very glad for that one opportunity.

Your photos make me weep. I miss living in the country and seeing the changes in the fields. I’ve never lived beside a cotton field, but now I want to! Thanks for sharing this beauty with me.

What a beautiful place to walk! I am always amazed by cotton. Those little balls look like they could be put right into a bag.
