Our Stay at the Beach: The Adagio
For the 4th year in a row, we spent Thanksgiving at the beach and for the 2nd year, we stayed at the Adagio condos in Blue Mountain/Santa Rosa Beach on 30A. I will be sharing a few posts about our stay and the beautiful sunsets and sunrises but today I just wanted to share an overview of our vacation.
First of all, yes, we leave all of the extended family on their own for Thanksgiving (my parents usually will celebrate with my brother) and the in laws come over to our house to visit my mother in law and head to the beach with just the kids. I didn’t grow up in the US and while I think giving thanks is wonderful, I do relish not hosting the occasion and taking time to thank God for our blessing in a beautiful setting.
For the 2nd year, we have stayed at the Adagio condos because of location and amenities. The 3 bedroom condos are very spacious and the complex is on the beach side of the road. The condos we have rented do not have ocean views but we always rent a 1st floor one so we can just walk out and down the walkway to the beach. We used the gym a couple of times as well as the heated pool but this year the boys did not jump in the large unheated pool. It was definitely a little colder but we still enjoyed some weather in the 60s and 70s most days.
This is definitely not one of those one week vacations where we budget. While we didn’t rent bikes this year, we did got to Wonderworks in Panama City beach and ate out twice (once as a family, once for date night). I am always shocked about the amount of money we can spend on food while down in Florida for a week. I used to bring everything I could from home but it takes a lot of space in the car. Last year, I brought nothing but this year I did bring as many dry staples as I could but yikes: we spent so much on food: we did grill fish everyday this go around.
We spent a lot of time on the beach this visit. I went out solo for my morning coffee most mornings a little after sunrise and went back out for the sunset.
The boys would start the day with layers playing in the sand and would shed them once it warmed up and then play in the water.
I remembered to bring our boogie boards this time so they really enjoyed that. There were several sandbars so my husband and the two older boys went out several times in the waves.
This is our most restful vacation as the boys entertain themselves and I can just sit back, supervise and read a book and scroll through instagram. Not sure if we will return next year or visit my brother in New Mexico but we sure had a great time!
I tried to be in the moment and am thankful for the time with my family!
A bientôt!

What a wonderful idea to get away instead of hosting. I may suggest that next year, haha.

I’ve spent 2 Thanksgivings traveling with my husband pre-kids and they were wonderful experiences. I think this is a fun idea! We’ve been to PCB a couple of times and it is a great area!

I do not really enjoy big family gathering so I do like this.

Looks like an amazing vacation! I have missed the beach this year – haven’t found the time to make it out there.

We get there most years but sometimes we prioritize other places.

Exactly! Some other vacations, you feel like you need a vacation from your vacation. Not the beach!

Mireille, I don’t know how you could bear to leave such a lovely place. Oh, wait, you go back to an even lovelier place! But, what a wonderful way to build memories with your boys! My kids still talk about family vacations (and they’re in their late 30’s and 40’s…yep…I’m that old). Is this a VRBO? I think I might be able to talk my husband into going there this time of year next year. I don’t enjoy Florida weather when it’s hot! I know, I’m old AND weird!
Such lovely photos…thanks for sharing!

I hope that is what the kids will do! We are hoping for a trip abroad next summer if the plane tickets ever go down to the price we want. Last year we rented here from VRBO but this year we went directly through the condo company itself.

Your Thanksgiving vacation sounds wonderful! The beach pictures are fun.
