Winter Coats in the Southern States
Living in the state of Georgia which is by all means a southern state in the United States that does not get snow every year, do I need a warm winter coat? My answer to that question is yes but do I need two? Probably not but with a gift card in hand and some free time on my hands, I found myself purchasing a second winter coat. According to google coats are heavier and longer in length than jackets. I consider most of my outerwear as jackets but my red peacoat a coat as well as these two down winter coats.
Here is my peacoat coat that I have had for about 10 years or so. I love it to dress up a look! The color while bold is a classic and never goes out of style. I have worn it sledding down my backyard at our old house and often wear it to go to church if it is cold.
My black down coat/jacket is warm without being heavy and I picked it up 2 years ago at Macy’s at an end of winter clearance sale. It is a Tommy Hillfigger and I love the lines. The hood is a little too large so I typically don’t wear it. I like to wear it when it snows (every few years) on cold winter days (we do have temperatures that occasionnaly dips in the teens and twenties) and it is great on windy cold days.
Now to the real question: did I need another similar coat in white? No! But it was love at first sight and no money out of pocket with that giftcard! It is a similar cut as my other one but heavier and the hood fits well. If it decides to snow this year, I plan to wear it!
I like that there is a black knit lining at the wrist which will prevent the coat from getting really dirty. Even if we do not get snow this year, we eventually will and we plan to have some snow vacation in the future.
All bundled up but no snow to play in! The last time we had a real snow what 4 years ago before we moved to this house. We were in the process of selling our house and a cypress tree weighed down by snow fell on our house. Thankfully there was no damage but one shingle but it sure didn’t look good when the people who had made an offer on the house came to look at the house again.
A few years before that it snowed so quickly and hard for the south (remember we people in the south do not know how to drive in the snow and the roads were not salted) and people got stuck on highways and roads and were unable to make it home. It took my husband 5 hours to do a 40 min drive and one of the boys’ godfather ended up leaving his car on the interstate and walking to a friend’s home to spend the night. It was crazy. School was canceled for a week! But despite all that, we still like the occasional snowfall! We love sledding (I remember doing it 9 months pregnant with my now almost 11 year old), having snowball fights and making snowmen.
So if it snows this year, I am ready! I like that the boys schools are nearby so it would be easy to pick them up if a situation like that big snow arises! And for some reason I do love outerwear and I am always tempted by new jackets and coats! Do you have some items you love in your closet that might not be the most practical for your climate but you still love them?

Well, you know I have a crazy amount of coats and jackets and warm weather wear (though I did realize this weekend that I need to invest in some ski/waterproof pants as I always steal my husband’s!). I love your white coat! Honestly we get ALL the weather so there isn’t much that wouldn’t fit in our climate.

I’ve been wearing the black jacket a few times a week now. The mornings have been cold.

Love the color of this puffy coat! I adore the faux fur trim on the hood.

I really liked that the hood was not oversized but fit perfectly.

I love anything with faux fur added to it 🙂 I love the winter white coat!

Winter coats are the one thing I don’t buy often. I have several, but they are also several years old. I just don’t ever find that just right coat that screams take me home! I do love the warmth of a puffer coat and bought one three years ago. It’s really nice when I have to take Jack out to do his business at night…he has to read all of the pee-mail so we’re out there a while!
I really like the white coat! You are braver than I am! But, you look stunning in it!

Thanks, Marsha! I don’t buy coats too often but light layer jackets, I do. I enjoy whenever we have cold days here. With cold you can always add layers but in the summer muggy heat there is only so much you can do.

I think you got yourself covered, no pun intended. Love your red pea coat, it’s so fun, then you have black which is what people usually wear in winter and the white one which breaks all the rules.

I think a white winter jacket is part of the recipe for happiness. I had one in the past and I wore it to death. Seriously it was my favorite coat. In fact, I just saw one today on sale and was tempted to buy it (I restained myself, haha).
The red one is fabulous too Mireille, because it’s such a fun color.

That red coat is beautiful on you! What a great color! And the white coat is fun too! All of these are sure to last you for years to come!

The red coat is really nice because I can layer under it and the color never goes out of style.

I live in coastal Georgia, and I rarely wear a coat. But . . . recently we’ve had some cold mornings and evenings that did require a coat to keep warm. Your coats look stylish and cozy. The white one is a wonderful addition to your collection.

Thanks, it is very warm and love the white.

I have definatly neglected my coat wordrobe, and have been putting off buying a new, longer car length one since before Covid. Georgia weather is sounding pretty good right now! We have daytime temperatures in the 20’s and 4″ of snow last night here in coastal Maryland. Love your red pea coat and your white coat looks so cozy and a refreshing color in winter.

Thanks, Di! We get enough cold days to justify one really nice warm coat but for some reason I just love coats and jackets and I like choices. I wouldn’t mind some snow! But not too much lol!

These look like great winter coats to have! I really like your red one! I’d love a more colourful winter coat wardrobe but the winters here are so short – I really barely wear the coats I have! I have a bright cobalt leather jacket, a couple black ones, and a navy and a beige trench coat and I think that’s enough for our Brisbane winters 🙂
Thanks for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 Another hot one here!

The one thing I don’t have is a trench coat but I don’t really wear the red one enough to justify another dressier coat.
Grace
Even if you maybe didn’t need it, that white coat sure is cute!! It’s much brighter and more playful than the black one, I think. And even if you don’t wear it much at home, maybe it’s an excuse for a fun colder-weather vacation! I love the red peacoat a lot too – so chic and perfect for the holiday season.
Thanks for joining my linkup, Mireille!
