May Favorites: Things that Make me Smile
We are heading on a vacation to New Orleans tomorrow and I only have a post scheduled for Monday. I will be back to my regular schedule starting with the Sunday Showcase on June 5. Today I wanted to end this month by sharing a few things that have brought me joy this past month.
Lavender
I have always loved the scent of lavender and kept some lavender my friend and I picked 25 years ago till just recently. I have been trying to grow lavender and my first plant is the only one that has done well and survived. This is a picture of some of the blooms. I love it!
Breakfast on the porch
As summer approaches (the boys last day is today since I am not sending them to school the next two days), one of my favorite things to do is to eat my breakfast on the porch while it is still cool and the no see ums are not biting much. I love the Aldi’s baguettes that you put in the oven and my coffee and Oui yogurts. This is my “French breakfast”.
Racing
My son and I still try to do a 5K race a month and we both beat our best run time this time. I ran it is 25:47 which surprised me since I have been usually running about a minute longer. I won the top female master which is 1st for 40 and older. The medals were handmade clay for top master and the first 3 male and female: a duck since it is the Duck Dash! My brother ran the half marathon which I had originally planned to run until I was plagued with shin splints and couldn’t run and train for more than 6 weeks.
Pretty Sunrises
I still love to take pictures of the sunrise when I drop off the boys. Love how pretty and different they are each morning!
The Garden
It’s been a busy couple of days and as I was proofreading this published post I realized I never finished it! Oops! My garden is another favorite with the pergola. Some of the flower come back each year and we also plant some seeds. They are coming up now and I cannot wait to see what makes it. I have sunflowers, zinnias and wildflowers planted. I am not the greatest at watering but it rains enough for hardy things to grow.
I am looking forward to lazy mornings this summer, occasional outings and adventures with the boys and some pool time. I usually do get tired of the pool after the first month so we will see what this summer brings. I am hoping to have a couple projects done around the house but they depend on others to be tackled. First is a new island and we are waiting for a response from the cabinet person: they were supposed to arrive at the warehouse last week and still no word!
A bientôt!

Yes, breakfast outside! That really makes me happy. But just being outside does!

Me too! I love time outdoors which is why summer is not my favorite here because it really gets hot and humid and then mosquitoes and other little bugs bite.

I know: they are both so beautiful! Here, it is just a lot easier for me to catch a sunrise but at the beach it has to be both!

These are such great favorites! I too love the scent of lavender and last year planted it the first time in my garden. It did well and should have come back this year, unfortunately it just looks dried up and dead right now 🙁 Think our winter was just too cold and too long even though they are considered perrenials in my area.
Congrats on making the top female master in the 5K!! How fabulous!

It just might come back! I have been surprised with my good one how it looks dead but returns.

I love the smell and sight of lavender, too! I have never tried to grow it, but maybe I’ll try sometime soon. I am so impressed at your first place finish in the 5K! Congrats!!! And, I am jealous of your pergola. I have always wanted one. Enjoy your vacation! New Orleans is so much fun!
