New Orleans: Botanical Gardens

The botanical gardens might have been one of my favorite places to visit in New Orleans apart from walking around the French quarter and admiring all of the different buildings. The admission is pretty inexpensive even for a family of 6 with $10 for adults 13 and older and $5 for children. It is located in the city park area of town which also boasts the Museum of Art, the sculpture garden, some playgrounds and also a Cafe du Monde.

The botanical gardens were very pretty with many plants in bloom and different sections. I loved the long expanses of graces with hedges or fountains. I like the architectural elements of it. It was a wonderful spot for outfit pictures as you will see next week on my Ageless Style post.

Just looking at these pictures makes me want to go back again. The boys enjoyed the gardens too and really enjoyed the model train section. They ran around trying to follow them on the tracks and learned a little from the hobby from the person on staff in that section.

It was pretty neat as the layout represented several areas of New Orleans. Water features are always a favorite of mine and they had some really cool fountains. There was also a small section of the garden with sculptures.

For some reason, a fountain always makes me feel cooler even if I don’t get wet.

I always get aspiration to become a gardener when I see flowers but alas, I know I do not have a green thumb and have to rely on very hardy plants and flowers if I expect them to survive in my car.

A few of my favorites: I love these particular colors and the details on each of these. Hydrangeas, orchids and duranta repens: I had never seen that purple one before and it caught my eye.

Another few beauties: pink brazilian plume flower from the Acanthacea family, a costus and another orchid: God’s wonderful paintbrush in nature!

A few more spots that we really enjoyed: everyone peeked through the waterfall, the boys ran around the fountain in the chimes garden (2nd picture) and of course that building and arch was a great spot for pictures.

Another area I really enjoy was the herb garden with all of the different scented herbs: I tried smelling them and identifying them without reading the labels. I love cooking with herbs but usually go the dried route since it is simpler and more inexpensive.

Hope you enjoyed this tour and do go visit the botanical gardens if you are in New Orleans!

A bientôt!
