La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Costa Rica

Well, I wish I was back at La Paz Waterfall Gardens! This week has been a long one with lots of time spent on the phone to resolve different things, and family members taking turns not feeling well. We visited La Paz Waterfall Gardens our last full day in Costa Rica. I thought the price was excessive at $50 but I will say the waterfalls were amazing and the grounds well taken care of and quite gorgeous.

The Animals

After seeing animals in the wild at our resort earlier, seeing the enclosed animals was not as awe inspiring! However these are all rescue animals. There were monkeys, butterflies and felines.

We did enjoy this part of the gardens but were anxious to get to the trail to the waterfalls.

This fellow wouldn’t stop pacing so I couldn’t get a clear picture of him but it was neat to see him close up. I have always found jaguars and the likes to be fascinating animals.

Typical Structure

Of course we didn’t see any houses like this as we traveled but I understand this is how they used to be built.

There were a couple oxen nearby and the cart below is how the carts used to be typically painted. I love the happy colors. Pura Vida!

The Waterfalls

There are 5 waterfalls and I believe the largest is the first one and since a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth even more.

I was glad we wore our rain jackets because the mist from the waterfall did get us wet. The waterfalls are quite massive (you sure would not swim at their base) and quite breathtaking.

I love water features of any kind so even though the admission fee was steep, I really enjoyed this place. There were 2 restaurants on side and 2 gift shops and the grounds well immaculately kept.

The Trails

The trail along the waterfalls was safe and the barrier was made of concrete but looked like wood. It was made to keep as much of the natural habitat/land in place.

Costa Rica is so green! That is one of the things that struck me as soon as we left the city, how green this country is!

La Paz Waterfall Gardens is privately owned and has created many jobs for the local population. It is about 45 minutes of the San Jose International airport and is the country’s largest animal sanctuary with 100 species. We spent a couple of hours here which is the minimum time recommended to allow you can really take in the beauty.
