Date Night: Dinner and Axe Throwing
After our trip to Costa Rica this past October, I decided to really work hard on planning regular dates and the occasional overnight date with my husband. The boys are old enough to where my 16 year old can watch them for 24 hours without me having to worry about them. So I offered to pay him for babysitting (he just got a car for Christmas and needs to pay for his gas) and he did a great job at watching and playing with his brothers. We used hotel points for our stay at the Marietta Conference Center (read about our last stay in this post).
I love the addition of the giant chessboard and firepit even if we did not use them. The sunset was really pretty and perfect for a couple’s selfie.
Dinner Outfit
I wore a thrifted Free People leather skirt, one of my favorite pairs of boots, my trusty Old Navy shacket and for extra warmth a beanie hubby gifted me this Christmas and a nice chunky scarf.
Axe Throwing
This was a first for my husband and I, and he was much better at it than I was. I still had a lot of fun and got a few good throws in. The staff was really helpful and gave us some great pointers on how to throw and how to improve our aim.
I would love to do this again but would like to find a place that is a little less expensive than where we went (it was $59.99 for an hour for the both of us). We were early birds and went at 8 and were back at the hotel by 9:30.
We stopped briefly by a Christmas light display on our way back to the hotel. We really enjoyed our time and I will make sure to plan another overnight in the spring. Until then a day date or an evening out will be great!
A bientôt!

What a fun little getaway! We’ve only been axe throwing once (for my brother’s surprise party) and all the places near us are pretty pricy too–I’m betting it’s because the insurance has got to be pretty high!

That makes sense! Next time, we might eat in and then go do it!

The axe throwing is a thing here in the US and was pretty fun! Thanks: the skirt is a little on the short side but pretty cute for date night!

Wow, axe throwing as a date night is a new one for me – sounds like a lot of fun! How great that your oldest can now be left to babysit overnight/for a full day.

It was as fun as I thought it would be even if I wasn’t the best at it.

These are the best kinds of dates when you do something new. And especially get away like that.
How fun,

You are stunning in your getaway outfit, Mireille! I love that leather skirt!! And, axe throwing? I’ve always wondered about that! It looks like fun, but I wonder if my husband would even attempt it. I’ll have to work on him!

It is definitely something important and I have been loving the kids getting a little older so we have more opportunities for things like this.

Me too: my goal is always at least a date night a month but it doesn’t always happen so going to do a better job planning this year.

That looks like a fun date night! I’ve never tried axe throwing but the kids got to try an inflatable one (with velcro “axes” at a Christmas event last year and they really loved it – they will need to be a bit bigger before we try the real thing though, haha!
Hope you are having a good start to the new year 🙂

Ha ha, yes, I probably would let my oldest do this but that is about it. We did enjoy our last week of break/ beginning of the new year!

What an amazing date night adventure, Mireille! And I think it’s wonderful that your 16-year-old is responsible enough to look after the younger kids for a night away. I loved your date night outfit, you looked gorgeous!
Big hugs, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
