Vacation Outfits: Casual and Simple
I did not wear everything I packed for our trip to North Carolina (mainly one dress and a sweatshirt), but otherwise I was pleased with my choice of clothing. I tend to pack more when we travel by car than by plane as we have more space. This trip involved a lot of leisure time as well as outdoor time. We typically did not leave the cabin till 11 or noon so I was really glad I had packed some cozy things.
Cozy Evenings
I had been wanting a star sweater for a while and found this one on Ebay. It was new with tags and before purchasing it, I checked the brand to make sure I was getting a good deal on it. It was an Amazon brand and ran around $30 and I got it for $18. I wore my black tank most evenings with these cozy pants.
Travel Outfit
This was my traveling outfit on the way to the cabin. I was very pleased that the cabin was only 2 and half hours away from home as my husband had to work the day we went and the day we came back. It allowed for a stress free trip as we knew how short the ride would be. I bought these Keen water shoes (kids size) last year before our anniversary trip to Costa Rica.
Denim Shorts
Denim shorts are a staple. Since the weather was very pleasant (we woke up to mid 50s and it really did not get past 80 degrees), I was able to wear shorts comfortably. Both these sandals were comfortable for what the days involved. The turquoise Keens have stood the test of time.. I have no idea how old they are but probably 8 years old at least. I really like gray graphic tees: simple but interesting.
Lake Day
We actually spent two days on the lake but I have no pictures from the 2nd day’s outfit. The first lake day, we rented a pontoon and I wore my bathing suit under. My oldest and I rode the tube behind the pontoon. This crop little top was perfect and I like how the white chunky sandals bookend the look. I may not be the best at wearing sunscreen, but I am good at wearing my hat! My little cargo skirt is another fun thrifted piece that I’ve had for years.
Skort
I decided to hike in style and wore a top I ordered from Brindle Boutique. I will have a whole blog post featuring this outfit coming up soon. I wore a pair of sneakers that are more fashion than practical for a hike but it all worked out. Here is the link to the top! I cannot wait to wear it with white shorts or my white skirt!
I also wore that same skort on the way home with another blouse (a thrifted one). I am wondering if I should add another one to my closet at some point. It is really practical and I love the material which makes me think of some of my joggers.
A bientôt!

Thank you!

I always pack more when traveling by car too. I find that for active/hiking trips I tend to pack a lot more since I need hiking clothes and then something just a bit nicer to wear after hiking. Plus I never want to re-wear any of my hiking clothes (unless we have access to washer/dryer) since we tend to go on long hikes and they get sweaty. We’ve been consistently hitting the hiking trails around 9 and we finish up in time for a late lunch so it’s more our evenings that are spent relaxing. And we’re all so tired that we’re falling asleep by 8 or 9! LOL.

That makes sense: thankfully we always rent somewhere with a washer and dryer.

Very functional and just a little step up from my regular shorts. Love that they are lightweight.

You look wonderful in all of these outfits! I really like the ones with the skorts. I used to have so many but got rid of them years ago. Maybe I should rethink that. Your vacation sounds wonderfully relaxing…the best kind!

Thanks, Amy! I think having a graphic tee or cute top makes a difference.

How cute are you? Glad you found your star sweater. It looks adorable on you and can probably be worn almost year-round. But my favorite look is the olive skort (best color in the world) and that bright top from Brindle Boutique. I have a tab open to check it out. I don’t need another thing but gosh, it is beautiful. And I would love to have an olive skort. I bought 3 skorts right before Covid when I started playing pickleball and then Covid closed my pickleball court (and the whole world). I just got my skorts out again this summer and PC has been very complimentary. They are so versatile. Off to check out your darling top and search for an olive skort. Thanks for the inspiration.
