Lavender Farm on a Summer Day

Lavender! Sunflowers! Those are two of my favorites and this year as I searched for a local blueberry farm, I came across a local lavender farm! I was excited and told the boys, we would have a little field trip one morning. Thankfully the weather was agreeable and we planned to arrive to beat the crowds and the heat. I was very impressed with the property: the lavender was plentiful, the area picturesque and the owners very friendly.

The family  bought the property this winter, and this was their first year hosting an event. The lavender was part of the property when they bought it so this was their first time having people come and pick/cut their own lavender. They also had some lavender products and some lemonade.

I loved it! We took our time cutting lavender and each of the boys put some in their room when we got home. Bees and bumblebees were plentiful but did not bother us.

My lavender barely made it this winter with our few days of hard freeze (in the teens) and only one small part of my favorite plant survived. It is my dream to plant a full box planter of them, but I will need to do some research about the dirt and buy the right type.

This place was my dream home! What a beautiful property! The family is actually planning to build a barn and host weddings. I thought that was a wonderful idea to continue to bring some income in.

We enjoyed some lavender lemonade which was made to perfect with some French syrops. Two of the boys had shaved ice.

We also bought home some lavender linen spray with our lavender cuttings.

Next, I should visit a sunflower farm! I haven’t in a couple of weeks, but summer is about over and I need to save for two fall vacations, anniversary, birthdays and school starting! July has found me trying to get back to some serious budgeting.

A bientôt!

That looks lovely! We do have a lavendar farm somewhat nearby but I have never been. I have been to the sunflower farm and a tulip farm though.

I wonder if there’s a lavender farm near me. I love lavender and want to plant some around the house. Our neighbor lost all of his lavender. I read that the drought we had last year combined with a couple of bitterly cold days probably kills lots of plants. Luckily, all of mine made it.

This farm would be my heaven, too, Mireille. Can you imagine that being your job? I’m sure there are lots of worries, but it would be wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing this.

This property was so pretty even with the lavender: I was a little envious! But to have a little taste of Provence like that: even better.

I love lavender! Our son and DIL have a non-profit animal rescue farm and they planted lavender I can not wait to see the fields in bloom.

Your post reminded me that I have always wanted to visit our local lavender farms but when I tried to find them via Google, nothing local showed up. I wonder if they have closed? Waaaaa.

I can almost smell the lavender from your lovely photos. And almost taste the lavender lemonade. I know it was refreshing. When we went to France in 2009, I had not smelled lavender much. But I came to appreciate and love it, it seemed the whole country smelled like lavender.

It could be. Like I mentioned in the post (I think), the first one I visited a few years ago was not worth the drive. This place was quite beautiful.
