Fun at a Small Airport: Dekalb Peachtree Airport
A couple of weekends, ago, we were invited to a birthday party at the Dekalb Peachtree Aiport in Atlanta. I use to meet up with friends there when I lived in Stone Mountain, but it had been years since I had been. I took the 2 youngest as I knew they would enjoy the birthday party (for a 5 year old) and the location. I wasn’t sure whether there would be a few or many planes since it was a Sunday afternoon and boy, were we surprised and impressed by the number and variety of airplanes landing and taking off.
This little airport is a great location for a party as there is a covered area for picnics with bathrooms, and a playground.
There is also a great area to sit and view the airplanes, a seating area like a small amphitheater.
One of the planes was practicing some cool tricks, repeately landing and taking right off veering quickly and circling back. There were different sizes of planes and there was quite a difference in the amount of noise they made taxiing.
The children really enjoyed observing the airplanes and talking about how they were different.
It made us excited about our upcoming plane ride as my 5 year old does not remember our last one a couple of years ago. I am not sure I would want to fly in such small planes, though!
What kind of unusual but fun places have you been for birthday parties? This has to be one of my favorites.
A bientôt!

This reminds me of one of my sister’s birthday parties, she must have been also around 5 years old, where we went to a train station with a special elevator that can also go to the side (like a bridge). The kids loved it and went many rounds with the elevator!

That sounds like a lot of fun!

That does sound like such a neat location for a birthday party! I love the added entertainment built right in.

Exactly! The kids spent more time watching the planes that playing on the playground.

Talk about a fun and inexpensive activity. We had an airport like this on the outskirts of Denver that had a great restaurant in it.

It is pretty cool. Too bad the airport 5 min from the house doesn’t have something like that!

What a fun idea for a birthday party! Now I need to start thinking of more creative places to have mine 🙂 Good thing I have until May to think of it!

My birthday is usually low key, even the kids… My 5 year old does want a party this year… that’s one month from now!

Now that is a smart place for a birthday party! Fun for everyone! I remember when I was a kid, we would drive to Chicago and watch the planes take off at O’Hare Airport. We probably also went to the zoo, but I remember watching those big planes zipping up into the air!
But, I missed something…where are you going on an airplane?

We are heading to Costa Rica in a couple of weeks! Watching planes take off and land is fun isn’t it?

This sounds fun! I live close to a small county/private airport and they have an event for kids every year!

I would be very nervous about getting on such a small plane too, Mireille LOL! But what a brilliant place for a bbirthday party?! I bet the kids loved it! We have a small aerodrome about a 15 minute drive away that has a little cafe. I went a couple of times many years ago and every time I drive past, I think, “I really must go back there”. Maybe one of these days I’ll finally get round to it. We get a lot of skydivers there too which would be fun to watch.
