Black Dress with Western Twist
It’s spring break! It’s a fun and exciting week! My college friend and her family are visiting Atlanta (and us) for a few days and we will probably join them on a couple of outings to Six Flags and the aquarium. She has 3 sons close to my two oldest’s ages and the boys all get along well with mine. Then on Friday, I am heading on a solo trip to Arizona to visit Jodie and I am so excited for some fun time visiting with her.
My look today is inspired by Melanie’s outfit above. I follow her on IG and she has the cutest Western outfits and when I saw this look, I knew I would replicate it for Sunday church! So ironic that I almost donated my black dress last year because I wasn’t wearing it, but kept it after seeing Jill style it several ways. It renewed my love for it.
Since my dress is sleeveless, I added a off white corduroy jacket for the windy day. I like how the length of the dress shows off my boots. My grandomother’s pendant necklace, my vintage ring and my beaded bracelets complete the Western look.
I am really hoping to find a pair of 2nd hand boots on my trip to Arizona this coming weekend. I would love a dark brown pair or really any color. I wear my boot enough to justify spending a decent amount on a thrifted pair. Since I am only bringing carry-on luggage, I need to decided whether to bring a small suitcase or my large backpack like I originally planned.
I always like to pack lightly when I fly, but I always struggle to find the balance between packing lightly and leaving space for souvenirs… Since thrifting is on the agenda on this trip, I need to have space in my luggage.
We have a two week trip planned at the beginning of summer and I want us to only bring carry-on bags because of the connections on our flights. I am always afraid of losing luggage especially if we fly an airline we are not used to. I remember coming back from a trip and the airline misplacing a suitcase. We did get it the same or following day, but since blogging, I tend to pack some of my favorite clothes when packing. Therefore I like to know where my suitcase or bags are at all times!
I also have forgotten a piece or two the on a couple of trips. I left a pair of pants and a shirt in Costa Rica and a skirt several years ago in the republic of Georgia. For some reason, I usually do not forget things when we travel locally.
After looking at the close up of my boots, I think I need to my husband to condition them with his leather conditioner. They need a little love!
A bientĂ´t!

That is a fun styling option with a plain black dress!

Yes, now I wonder why I wanted to give it away =)

I like that dress with the corderoy jacket, such a lovely comination and with your boots. Yes I agree, you need to have your husband give your boots a little TLC.

I will see if he can do that this weekend!

Fabulous look! You have giving me inspiration to black tiered dress like that. I’m going to shop this week and already had my wires put on some golden Western boots!

Oh, that will be fun!

You styled your black dress very attractively. I think a black dress is usually worth holding on to, as it can be the basis for many different looks.

Yes! It can be a blank canvas to different outfits.

I like the distressed look of the boots and this outfit is fabulous!
Sometimes I think the reason we don’t wear certain items is because we just haven’t figured out some great combinations with them!

This is the 2nd dress I have kept after planning to donate after seeing someone style it in new ways.

Those boots are fabulous, Mireille! I’m betting Jodie will help you find a pair quite easily! Your black dress really does look so good with them, too! Maybe, you should pack your backpack in your suitcase so you have something to bring all your goodies home in!

I hope so! I think the straw tote is large enough between it and the extra space in the suitcase. I really don’t need anything so I am planning to not go to crazy shopping.

I really am in a turquoise jewelry phase!

The black and white combo is beautiful and timeless. The western cowboy boots adds a fun flair to your look! I do the same when traveling – only a carry-on. A lot of the times I learned that not all the stuff we bring gets used or worn. Plus, like you I prefer to know where my things are especially they are closet faves!!

I didn’t even wear all I brought on the weekend but I did wear a couple things twice.

I love it when something gets us excited again about an item we already own. The western styling here is so cute!

You look unique in the blackdress. I appreciate your styling approach. Your neckless gives you a unique look. Your short hairstyle is very noticable.
