Butterfly Trail: New Beginnings and Warmer Days Ahead
I thought that it would be nice timing to share the pictures I took of the local iron butterfly Trail. The weather has been cold and the outdoors are not always enjoyed as much as on warmer days. Butterflies are symbols of transformation, rebirth and new beginnings. They are often symbols of hope and love. Many of us have spent some time in January planning some changes for our year or wanted to start something new, so these butterflies are fitting to close out this month.
The trail allows different local businesses to sponsor different artist to paint the butterflies. The project began in 2021 and connects the community through art and nature. I didn’t realize how many there were around town until I took pictures of some of them on a family bike ride and then had to search a few more. I am still missing some here.
I love going to towns with similar ideas: Cherokee, NC has cool 3D bear sculptures which I photographed and shared here, Edisto, SC has loggerhead turtles, Atlanta had dolphin sculptures at some point, but I am not sure if they are still displayed. I love seeing the creativity displayed and figuring out which is my favorite.
Now, I haven’t had any transformations in January, but I have done pretty well for some of my goals:
- I have walked or ran every single day, 2 miles being a minimum totaling as of today of xx miles walking and xx miles running
- I have not bought any clothing for myself this month
- I spent $1094.63 on groceries this month, a little overbudget ($900-1000 is my goal, but this included 1 week with my 18 year old still at home, a breakfast for 10 people and 2 pots of taco soup to bring to church) so all in all, not bad
I am referring to my post for my goals for the first quarter of 2025 to see what I have accomplished or what I am adapting.
- I haven’t added any students to tutor and the one I had is on hiatus while he is in tennis tournaments for the next month or so.
- I am rethinking the idea to substitute next year: do I really want to work with kids? I think I might rather take a part time job at TJMaxx for fun!
- I have limited Amazon and credit card spending
- I have not added an arm and ab workout a week.
- we went on a date with my husband this past Saturday night.
- the boys and I have had several game nights usually with popcorn or hot cocoa.
- no hikes
- I haven’t watched my sugars, but I have been making homemade bread twice a week and some type of snack once a week.
- I haven’t made any progress about vacation planning yet, but that is a goal for February!
A bientôt!

I would fail at working at TJMaxx because I would spend my whole paycheck, LOL.
But I love how you’ve been monitoring everything and love the butterflies,

At my hometown, one summer, the city had the art students paint the fire hydrants. They were so cool and different. Unfortunately, they eventually decided the fire hydrants were harder to find so they painted them red again. The biggest city next to us was Fort Wayne, and they have mastodons all over the city that have been painted. There’s another place near us that has pigs, but I can’t remember where. I like the butterflies better than the pigs.
I need to revisit my bucket list, too!

That’s interesting about the hydrants but I guess it makes sense. Butterflies are definitely prettier than pigs lol!

Those are beautiful butterflies. You are doing really well on your goals!! Thanks for stopping over, I’ll reply here since I don’t have your email (you are a no-reply blogger). That is wonderful about doing no spending until March! I know what you mean about not getting distracted while thrifting. I try to keep a running list of what I’m looking for but I do get distracted as well. Good luck with the board book search! I hope you’re having a great week!

I love all of the butterflies! Our town does a different theme each year. One year it was different bugs, one year was trucks. It’s cute to walk around and see them all!

Last year I covered a bowler hat with butterflies I beaded and while I don’t get the chance to wear it, it’s in my hallway and makes me smile when I see it. Butterflies do that
The Butterfly Trail made me think of CowParade https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CowParade
I’m also a big fan of postbox toppers in the UK!
