A Visit to Franklin, TN
We stayed in a hotel in Cool Spring, TN for spring break which is just 10-15 minutes from Franklin, TN. What a cute little town! The area around Franklin is lush and green with beautiful pastures and fences and rolling hills. The town itself boasts a nice square and boutiques and several restaurants. We first found a place for coffee which led us to the Factory.
The Factory used to be a furniture factory, but now houses trendy shops and restaurants. We stopped for coffee, but returned for lunch. The sculpture outside was really neat, so I had to share it here. We passed by that evening after dinner and the heart was lit up.
We then visited a couple antique shops and walked to Pinkerton Park. We took some pictures next to a mural and walked up to where Fort Granger used to be. My husband’s seasonal allergies soon kicked in, which is a reminder to pack everyone’s Claritin and Allegra for our trip to New York early summer.
Carnton: Field Hospital, Battlefield Park and Historic Cemeteries
After a quick stop by Leiper’s Fork (not worth the drive even though it was a pretty drive), we headed to our final destination for the day, Carnton. I actually had read some inspirational fiction that had taken place here which made it even more interesting. We have always found historical places like this interesting and spent the majority of our time walking through the cemetery.
The dead had originally been buried in the battlefield with crude markers and were later moved to this plot donated by John McGavock where a book containing the names. When you walk through, you can see many unknown markers but also the initials for the ones who were known. The book gives the complete names for those initials. The graves are organized by state which was very interesting: you could see how many people had died at this battle for each state.
The property is very beautiful and we enjoyed walking around it. We did not do a tour of the house, but just enjoyed the grounds. It feels like it had been a long time since we had explored a little more of our country. I would like to travel out west in the coming years, there are some states and beautiful places to be explored!

Oh yes! I found I really needed my allergy medicine this past weekend in Kentucky too and I was so glad to have tossed it in my bag at the last minute. I had just started seeing pollen up here and figured they’d be slightly ahead of us blooming wise. We had a lot of fun checking out The Factory at Franklin when were were in Tennessee last year.

Very cool! And I am glad you thought ahead with the allergy medicine.

It’s true there are some cool places to visit that aren’t so far away. I love how you explore like this.

We have been taking advantage of those places nearby recently. We just want to hang low on the weekends.

I have always wanted to visit Franklin. I would see a sign on the road as we were traveling south, but we never took the time to stop. It looks like we should have.

I’ve always like small town… the stores in the Factory were definitely more interesting than the ones around the square in my opinion, but both areas were still fun nonetheless.

I’ve been to the town of Franklin once, but never explored the areas around it. The town was so cute, like a movie set. I hope you get out west someday. It’s incredible!

PC and I find old cemeteries fascinating, too. We go to our National Cemetery at least once a year and read off the names of many of the tombstones. Paul once read somewhere or heard in a movie or something that no one really dies until their name is spoken for the last time. It is kind of our tribute to say their names.

That is kind of cool!
