Friendship and Food
I was reflecting on friendships after my trip out to Arizona to visit Jodie and Rob. The way you make friendships changes as you grow older. As a child, you make friends at school, church and sports activities and that I think that continues till you graduate from college. Then you meet friends through work, social activities and church. For me, I still have a couple friends I am in touch with from high school (my best friend is a friend I made when I was 10-12), we have changed churches a few times in the past 15 years but I am in touch with only 2 friends a few times a year from our prior parish. My current friends which I would call my daily friends that I see regularly, are 2 friends I made in the neighborhood (that I walk with) as well as my running friends. Since it has been so hot, I haven’t run much this summer so I kind of miss my running gals!

And then you have friends that you make through blogging that become a special part of your life. Two special friends are Jodie (and hubby) and my friend Rachel in Chattanooga. I visited Jodie and Rob last year for the first time and returned for a visit this year. Our visits are filled with conversations, walks, eating and just plain good old hanging out. I love that we have many things in common, they are genuinely perfect hosts and we also do love shopping together too!
This year, Jodie really got me to think more seriously about changing my eating habits and work on improving my A1C levels as I was borderline pre-diabetic according to my blood results last year. These are pictures of some of my meals there and while mine at home don’t look as good, I am following in those footsteps!
I found over the years that to keep and develop friendships, you have to put effort in those friendships. Every one has a busy life whether it is with family or activities, but you have to make time for friendships whether that is a phone call or text, a shopping outing or dinner, and sometimes a drive or an airplane flight. Next year, I am planning a family trip to Spain where my best friend will hopefully meet us for a few days and then I am thinking an anniversary trip to Arizona is due!
We met Cathie for lunch, thrifting and shopping , I also met Valerie (who is a regular on Jodie’s blog) for a museum, blog shoot and we randomly ran into Lesley (her other regular guest) in Goodwill! It was a wonderful visit, rejuvenating and it filled my cup. Thank you Jodie and Rob for your friendship!
A bientôt!

I have had friends come and go over the years. It’s hard when one decides to leave the friendship without telling you why. Luckily, I have my bestie that I see rarely. But, we always pick up where we left off. Good luck on the meals and your numbers.

I am the same way with my two oldest friends. Even though we don’t see each other much, we always pick up where we left off!

The food looks so good!! My mom was diabetic and was in stage 3 kidney disease. She started eating like me and within 6 months she went back to pre diabetic and down to stage 2!

You are right, the internet facilitates many new friendships. I met my husband in a Facebook group. And we recently visited our fellow expats who we originally got to know through YouTube. It’s so great that you’ve become friends with Jodie! She and her husband are so positive.

Yes! I think it is having that extra in common, the understanding about taking pictures that adds that layer to the friendship!
