Classic Floral Maxi Dress Made Edgy: Part 1
My style has evolved over the years, I have gotten more confident about what I like to wear and am drawn to certain elements. A couple of years ago, I wrote a blog post describing my style as colorful, practical, boho, fun and textured (read the post here). I think that definitely still describes my style. I also like to add some edge to feminine outfits and not have them be too sweet. Because of this, I haven’t worn my floral maxi dresses much: on their own, they are very feminine and I just want something with a little more oomph and interest! So this week and next, I will share how transformed two of my very classic feminine maxi dresses into outfits that had a little bit of an edge.

I first shared this dress on the blog in 2022 and have worn the dress mostly on its own since then. Today, I am sharing how I wore it last month for church and how I gave it a little bit of edginess by adding some accessories and a layer. I first tried regular vests with the dress, but I did not like the silhouettes which had be reaching for my two thrifted denim vests.

I liked the silhouette best with my cropped vest and the advantage of this one was that I could button a couple buttons to hide any cleavage. I usually wear a Halftee with this wrap dress, but the vest allowed me to omit that layer.
Next I needed fun accessories that were bold and interesting. Now that I have reorganized my bracelets with a couple of thrifted finds, all of my cuffs are displayed. The geometrical pattern on this cuff is fun and the ball earrings draw the eye.

I’ve shared my snakeskin clutch from Ivory Coast before and my Bensimon are French making this outfit a little bit international.

I think I accomplished my goal with this dress turning it from a simple classic outfit to an outfit with a little bit of interest and edge.
A bientôt!

That looks fabulous together! And I’m not even a vest girl. But I’m loving this outfit, very pretty dress.

Thanks, Nancy! The 2 denim vests I have are pretty fun to wear!

Definitely a success. Especially the first photo, where we see some leg action…that really makes it seem less girly.
This cropped vest is truly a fabulous piece…I love that you buttoned the top to give coverage….that’s called being the boss of your clothes for sure.
XOXO

Thanks, Jodie! I still love my maxis, but am trying to change them up: you are right though, about the leg action.. I could probably tie part of the dress or something…
Joanne

I am thinking a darker vest would have been more to my liking.

It’s funny, today, I am wearing my other cropped denim vest with some pants and I was thinking, what silhouette does this remind me of: I am dressed kind of like I dream of Jeanie IRL today!

I do like Maxi’s….though I’m short so they’re hard to buy off the rack. #TuesdayTwirl

I do have couple that are pretty long and I need to wear taller shoes… Maybe a belt and pull the material up?

Very clever, we often have pieces we don’t wear and it’s great to see ideas on how to ,make them better suit our style. The denim vest definitely adds the edginess. Thanks for linking at #TuesdayTwirl
