Apple Picking in Ellijay, GA

A couple of weekends ago, we drove up to Ellijay in North Georgia to pick some apples. We had not been in about 3 years and the somewhat short drive of 1h15  would allow us to go and come back with enough time to relax before Saturday night church. We chose to go back to R and A orchards which has less kids activities which means less people. It was still busy, but very enjoyable.

I always like to photograph the fun, colorful and strangely shaped pumpkins at the front of the country store. I never buy any because it is usually still hot most of September and October, and the pumpkins will rot.

There was a fun photo spot and I got a great picture of the boys! They probably would have liked to have had some sunglasses as the sun was directly in their faces and high in the sky. I wore the an old thrifted top with shorts because it’s a fun look and I was hoping I wouldn’t be too hot. Sneakers were a must and to change it up from the last time I wore this exact outfit, I wore green ones!

There were 5 different kinds of apples that we could pick. A couple are best for cooking and baking while the other 3 (golden delicious, Fuji and red delicious) are great for snacking. I made cinnamon apples from some of the apples.

One of the boys mentioned how much we spent, and I did add up the cost ($127 which included 2 bags of apples we picked, the tractor ride to the top of the orchard, fried pies, water bottles, candied jalapenos, Amish popcorn to pop at home, muscadine cider, and apple cider donuts). I told him I had expected to spend about $100 as I had looked at the prices, and we were paying for the experience and the freshness of the apples. It was like a field trip!

We brought a picnic lunch which I carried in an insulated backpack with some waters  and a few small gatorades. I think everyone had a good time!

A bientôt!
