Inspired Style: Exploring Layered Belts and Texture

Last month, Jodie shared a post with 10 different inspired street styles in a blog post. She demonstrated how you didn’t have to copycat a look to create a look that is still inspired by a picture. You can look at the textures used, the color combinations, or just one part of an outfit. I really enjoyed her post and reached out to see if she wanted to collaborate on a similar post and she sent me this inspiration picture. So we used this picture to create some looks. Here is her post!

The first thing I noticed in the picture was the layered obi belt with the pearls. That is where I started with my outfit: how could I create a layered belt and pearl look? My wide black belt wasn’t plain enough for my purpose and wouldn’t support the pearls easily, so I settled on a thrifted purple scarf to act as a belt and attached 2 strands of pearls with safety pins.

I wanted to add some texture and fun patterns reminiscent of the clutch bag, so I chose my spotted earrings and a white snakeskin cuff to add texture to my outfit. My little croissant clutch hold my car keys and is a fun little addition.

Since the original outfit seems to be a green set of some sort and I had this green set already hanging to wear the week of these pictures, I figured it was perfect for my photo shoot! I really love the flow of this skirt! And it has pockets!

Sadly, my shoes gave up the ghost as we walked to the car. I have had these striped Steve Madden sandals for years and now I am search of a new pair. It is amazing how much fun striped shoes can be and how much a stripe adds pizzazz to an outfit. So far, no luck finding a pair that I like enough to buy.

One of the things I really enjoy about sharing my outfits and having a blog, is that is inspires me to be creative and helps me realize how much I have in my closet. Playing around with new combinations and thinking outside the box is great for stretching your closet and for someone who enjoys fashion, it is like a playground with lots of shiny toys!
