Hiking near the beach
Most of the places we go to the beach have wildlife refuges or state parks nearby. As we were looking for an outing and we love to hike, we came upon the Bon Secour Wildlife refuge. We chose one of the trails and hiked for about an hour or two at a slow pace.
I love these trails because you see different types of flora and fauna, in this case mostly flora, many different cool plants!
Isn’t deer moss really cool? It belongs to the lichen family and is very slow growing. It felt spongy to the touch.
The brackish water gave the water a strange reddish tint. We were on the lookout for turtles or gators but no luck! The day was a little cool so nothing was sunning itself.
One part of the trail went through a really neat area bordering a pond and was made of sand. It made it a little more difficult to walk especially with a cute weight on my back. We turned back after a while.
Everyone enjoyed our hike which I was very grateful for: with 4 adults and 6 kids, you never know what is going to happen!
I had to add a picture of this solar powered outhouse that came in very handy on our walk: inevitably someone’s gotta go!!
A bientôt!

I love to be by the sea or a lake. That deer moss looks very interesting. Almost fake!

Yes, I wasn’t sure what it was the first time I saw it. Kind of strange looking.

It was pretty neat. I was a little disappointed we didn’t see any wildlife though!

What a lovely hike! There’s a similar one near us, around a little lake and through the mangroves out to the bay. We haven’t been for a while, we really should go again! 🙂
Hope that you’re having a great weekend 🙂 We went to our last Christmas party for the season yesterday, it was a lot of fun!

What a fun trail to walk! We love hiking and looking for mushrooms. Ralphie is obsessed with the ones that look like butts…because he is a 6 year old boy through and through! You are one tough mama hiking with that cute little weight on your back!

Ha ha, I just had to laugh out loud about the mushrooms! The boys like mushrooms too but I don’t think they have compared them to butts yet! I needed that exercise after all the sweets I ate!
