Sunday’s Best
This Sunday, I was very excited to wear one of my new dresses that my sister in law handed down to me a couple weeks ago. The dress was still new with tags and was a Calvin Klein dress she found at TJmaxx.
It skims the body without being too form fitting and the knee length is appropriate for church. I paired it with my Nickel and Suede saffron earrings, an old Target blanket scarf (cut in 2 for less weight and bulk) and my really old caramel boots I just don’t think I can part with yet.
I love that the sleeves are 3/4 so the bell shape is pretty without being annoying. I pretended it was warm in these pictures but it was 32 degrees when we took them.
One of my goals this year is to get wear my dresses and skirts more. I usually just wear them on Saturday night and Sunday mornings for church. I am trying to make sure the ones I have, I love and I am planning to add several skirts to my closet in the next several months. Receiving this one and an identical dark purple one from my sis in law was just awesome!
Now what is my excuse for not wearing this gorgeous red peacoat jacket last year? I do not know. I just pulled it out again this year and this is my second time wearing it this season. It is nice and warm and I love the burst of color. I plan to wear it much more this year. I have had it for probably 5 years or so and it does not show any wear. It was a great sale buy at Kohls after one winter season.
Next week’s post will feature a similar outfit with the purple dress which I am wearing on Nativity on Tuesday, January 7. This scarf would be perfect for it too but for the sake of variety, I will look through my scarves and create a different look!
A bientôt!

The dress looks perfect on you, such a great lengths. And loving the coat! Great idea to cut the scarf in half! Some of them do seem so bulky!

Such a cosy way to wear a dress, I love the big blanket scarf and that red coat is perfect! What a fun colour for winter 🙂 Goes so nicely with the scarf too!
Hope that your week is off to a good start! My first week back at work after the Christmas holidays so it is a busy one here!

You look great in red! I have a red peacoat and I always forget about it. I have really parred down my dresses for this time of year and have been looking to add a few new ones. Thanks for joining Style Six!

Thanks, Shelbee! I am working on paring down my purses now, I really only use a few of them and the others are just taking space. The thing I like with the coat is that even though I don’t always remember to wear it is that is is a classic so I will always like it!

Mireille, I love this look on you so much! What a great dress and I am a huge fan of blanket scarves. You know, I like the bulk of the blanket scarves because I am always so cold, but I have had a lot of women ask me ways to wear them to reduce the bulk, especially petite women and I never thought of cutting them in half! That is freaking brilliant and I will have to keep that in mind next time I am asked that question. Your red coat is so beautiful, too!

Thanks, Shelbee! No wonder you are always cold up there with so much snow and the cold! I only have the one blanket scarf and I gave the other half to one of my friends: 2 scarves for the price of one, lol. I got the idea from someone’s blog and never regretted it but then I do live in Georgia where we are still wishing for some snow this winter.

Love how you wear your scarf, fab! I have bought some tan boots and i hope they fit, they have heels so don’t know when I can wear them! Thanks for sharing on the #linkup Jacqui

Thank you, Jacqui! I am trying to wear my scarves more because once it gets warm, I won’t be able to!
Joanne
That is such a pretty dress! I actually bought a few dresses this fall/winter in the hopes that I would actually wear them more often too. I typically don’t wear dresses or skirts at all.

I really should wear mine more. I have found though that some styles I really like more so I do wear those more.

This dress is just perfect. So versatile. I’m sure you will create so many great looks with it.

What a gorgeous dress! So versatile. I have a red pea coat I never wear either.

I don’t know why I don’t pull the coat out more often because I really like it and it is really warm.

Styling a knitted LBD with tights and tan boots is genius. The boots are so unexpected but make the look special. Thanks for sharing your look at the Top of the World Style linkup party.

Thanks, Nicole: I tried several boots before settling on those: I liked the contrast.

Its funny, I usually wear dresses most of the time, but I asked my hubby when we went to the theatre yesterday and he said, wear jeans! So I need to wear jeans a bit more. Lovely dress! I love the sleeves and it is a perfect dress for layering! Pretty with the scarf and the leather earrings. I have to do the same – pretending it is warm when its not in order to get through a shoot. Love the coat on you!
thanks for linking!

Thanks, Jess! Having reorganized and trimmed down my closet has helped me wear some things more. The dress is such a nice blank canvas to create many looks. Going to have fun with it this year.
