2020 Word: Growth!

A couple weeks ago, I started working on my 2020 planner, adding school breaks, potential vacations as well as working on my January budget. I first thought about 2019 and what I was proud of:

  • establishing a weekly game night and spending more quality time with the kids in the evenings
  • great family vacations (2019 might be hard to top!)
  • having regular fun times with my sisters in law
  • starting the blog

Next I started to think about areas that I would like to improve:

  • quality time with the hubby, more regularly
  • prayers and reading time with the boys
  • save more money: with increased income comes increased opportunities to save
  • give more time to others: teach children to serve!

With that in mind, my word for 2020 is GROWTH

As a wife

  • monthly date if not twice a month: choose some fun activities like mini golf, escape room not just dinners out.
  • anniversary weekend: it has been 3 years since we went away without the kiddos. I am saving all my change and all of my $5 for this. After all the different trips and vacations, this is the one thing that I do not plan regularly
  • have more empathy!

As a mother

  • keep saying prayers with the boys before bed
  • add reading of the lives of saints and the bible at dinner time: it does not have to be a lengthy reading just 5-10 minutes
  • plan a monthly opportunity for children to serve: whether it is donating items to a food bank, visiting people at a retirement center…

As a individual

  • keep on budgeting! We are saving for vacations and our future: be mindful of what I spend money and when.
  • plan outings and times to get together with friends: I loved the summer for its opportunities to get together with friends but have not made it a priority during the rest of the year.
  • get back on track with exercising regularly: I never stick to it very long and keep having to remind myself to get back to regular routine. I will be turning 45 this year and need to stay active to keep up with my 4 boys!

A bientôt!

That sounds like a fabulous word of the year! I’d love to see you link up some of your posts like this with us at Encouraging Hearts and Home. We link up every Thursday (https://www.myslicesoflife.com/2020/01/encouraging-hearts-and-home-happy-new.html) and any posts related to family are encouraged. (see what I did there?!). Best of luck on your new goals– my goal last year was to spend more time dating my husband and we managed two mini weekends away just the two of us! I’m still not sure how that happened but it was wonderful.

Growth is a great word to choose for the year. As you pointed out, it can mean so many things but always shows progress. I love your list of things you want to accomplish this year. I can’t imagine, though, that staying fit with 4 boys is too difficult. You must be constantly running. I would imagine you definitely have to be aware of what you want to do and then actually schedule time to do those things or they just get put on a back burner for later. I hope 2020 is an awesome year of growth for you and that it’s a happy and healthy year!

Ha ha! Well, the 3 oldest go to school so not so much running around. But I do like to play with them outside so that helps!
