Baby room updates

Following with last Friday’s room update, today I am sharing a few things I did to my youngest’s bedroom. He is 2 and a half years old and thankfull still sleeps in his crib. The crib has made it through 4 children so we definitely got our money’s worth! It was purchased at Baby’s R Us 13 years ago! I like that it is a 4 in 1 crib so we can take the front off when he starts climbing out of it. We have one of the boy’s extra mattress and box spring for when he outgrows it. The main reason I wanted to make some updates to our little one’s room was that his walls have been bare since we moved into this house 2 years ago (apart from his icon corner) and it was not very colorful. He also did not have toys in his room apart from his ball pit so I wanted to change that.

Wall Art

How can you decorate a wall on a budget, on a very tight budget? First you recycle what you have. I used the Ikea artwork from his brothers room to decorate one wall. Since I didn’t want to worry about having the 3 pictures exactly at the same level, I staggered them on the wall. The dresser used to be in our guest bedroom and now holds the baby’s diapers, pjs and then a lot of miscellaneous things.

Use your children’s artwork and use cheap colored frames to brighten the room. Mine are from Ikea but I am sure you can find some in other places. The pictures were hung in his brother’s room and I just chose 2 to add color to that wall.

Last I enlarged some pictures and used cheap Walmart frames. Walgreens offers free 8 by 10 pictures quite often and I always take advantage of those promotions. This particular time, I just used one of their coupon codes and spent about 8 dollars for all 4 pictures.

Total for this rooms’ art decor was about 16 dollars!

Toy storage

I wanted to bring a few toys into the bedroom but not too much: too many toys equal to much time cleaning up toys. I was actually looking for a 4 cube storage shelf but couldn’t find one (I did not want to use large storage bins) so I ended up with this 3 cube storage from Target. I already had colorful storage bins in little J’s brothers’ room so I used the ones in the best shape for this room. The carpet was also in his brother’s room. I feel like the carpet adds dimension to the room and gives the baby an area where he should play in.

We originally had a larger ball pit in the kitchen but all of the boys would play in it and create a mess as well as finally destroyed it. This smaller ball pit fits nicely in the corner and while it gets a lot less use now, little J still has fun in it every once in a while.

There you have it! For about $50, this room went from very blah to fun and colorful. My recommendation is to first look around your house to see what can be used in the space you are trying to transform. I often do that with the decor in my dining room and my little tiered tray. Then if you are on a tight budget, check Facebook Marketplace first before shopping new.

I really love how both this room and J’s brother’s room have turned out. Everything has a home, it only takes a few minutes to put things away and the decor is simple and not overdone.

Take advantage of this time to declutter and organize your kids’ room or other spaces in your house to make it easier to put things away. My first step in both of these room was to get rid of the excess in toys and books, my second was to create a home space for everything,

Till my next organizing project!

The room looks great and so well organized! I agree this is a great time to organize and de-clutter. I wanted to repaint the kitchen this spring, but I’m dreading the work and haven’t started yet…wonder if I ever will!!

Yes! I pick and choose where I would rather spend the money like I just got the boys one of those Nugget couches that I have been seeing on people’s feed. Figuring out how much use we will get of things…

Looks awesome Mireille! I love the art work as well. And the tent with the balls..we had a similar one for my kids and they loved that thing! Thank you for the shout out on today’s Bundt Cake recipe being incorrectly linked. It has now been corrected in today’s Friday Favorites Post!

The room looks lovely, I really like the staggered pictures on the wall! And our cribs are those convertible ones too, they are lasting well with the boys, they look so nice without the sides although we will probably have to upgrade my eldest to a proper bed soon as he’s getting a bit big for the mattress!

Hope that you are having a nice weekend 🙂 It’s another quiet one at home here.

Thanks, Mica! The boys enjoyed some outdoor water guns play today and we found a new used bike for my oldest (his current used bike was done!). I am working on getting inspired on finding some blog post topics!
