Summer Free Fun

Last week, the boys and I sat down and looked at some pins I had saved on Pinterest over the years to find some things we might have fun doing this summer. I am still hoping to visit my new baby niece (close to DC) this summer but we probably won’t go unless things open up more. We would like to take advantage of being in that part of the country to visit Washington DC so we may wait till the fall. Until our visit, we will enjoy pictures and videos of her as she is a cutie. But while we are home for probably most if not all of summer, I thought it would be nice to have the occasional fun activity. Free play, reading and watching movies are great but sometimes the kids need something to look forward to especially that we are not sure if the neighborhood pool will open at all this summer.

Here is our list of activities approved by the kids. You can search them up or just search summer fun activities to find more.

  • tie dye with sharpies (I had one shirt around the house so N. made one last week)
  • minute to win it games
  • butterfly feeder
  • create mini golf course
  • burn dandelions
  • capture fireflies and release them
  • foil river
  • marshmallow shooter
  • solor ovens
  • ice cream in a bag

Water games:

  • water war (with soda bottles)
  • water balloon games
  • water gun fights

Bubbles

  • water bottle bubbles
  • bubble guns

We would like to get an outdoor Connect 4 game if they still have them at Aldi.

I hope this inspires to have a little fun at home. None of these things cost money as you should have all the things necessary otherwise you should be able to find what you need at the dollar store. Now, we are not going to do something every day and I do not expect everything to be a success. Yesterday, I thought it would be fun to have some shooting practice with water guns/bottles and nerf guns and paint and a target. I heard more whining and complaining than anything. Taking turns is not fun and the boys were not as excited as I had hoped. But we did spend time outdoors and every one did have some fun at the end.

A bientĂ´t!

I try but don’t always succeed with the fun part. Today was clean up day upstairs so we could try to hike this afternoon.

We’ve done 4th of july tie dye with the kits before and we still have the shirts (that was a project 4 years ago!). They came out great.

Fun ideas! I’ve really been wanting to do the mini golf idea myself. Can’t wait to see which ones turn out best as the summer goes on!

yes, the mini gold does sound like fun: and two activities in one: make the course and then play the course.

It’s funny how it can sound like a great idea, yet the boys have other ideas. At least they tried it.

Yes, and the two youngest ended up really liking shooting the water guns at targets so not a total loss activity.

Sounds like a good list! I found with iso that it wasn’t always the activities I’d thought of that amused the boys – often the smallest things gave them the most enjoyment to play with. It’s interesting the things that can capture their imagination sometimes!

Hope you are having a great weekend 🙂 We celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday, just at home with takeaway but it was nice 🙂

Happy anniversary! I know, one of the kids favorite thing in the summer is eating the popsicles I make. I found a new recipe for this week. They are also enjoying me baking new desserts, lol! Yesterday’s long bike ride was enjoyed by all. Will be shring it on the blog this week.

Fun ideas! That marker tie dye is so cute. I am going to need to sit down with my boys and find some fun things to do. But for now, they are playing their days away with the neighborhood kids and they seem to be exercising their imaginations just perfectly without any adult intervention. It is actually really cool to watch!

That is awesome! The boys seem to be a little burnt out on playing outdoors so we shall see how this week goes.
