Monochromatic Black for Summer

I love an all white look for summer but I also love an all black look too! While I wouldn’t wear all black and sit in the sun, an all black look is chic and classy for summer and can be appropriate depending on your activity. Today, I am sharing a look I wore running errands and hanging out at the house, a look I did a little walk in and a dressier look I would wear going out or going to an indoor event.

Black skirt and graphic tee

Often times, when I wear all black, I like to add some color with bright accessories. I have neutral sandals that I wear but I think my favorites are my colorful ones: turquoise, orange/coral and now yellow sandals are here to stay until they fall apart. These particular sandals are probably 5 years old. I mentioned in one of my Instagram post how lately, going in my closet makes me happy! I haven’t been as thrifty as I probably should have been but I have really curated my clothes to who I am. Most items can be dressed up or down and the majority are really comfortable and comfortable. I still like my neutrals such as black and white so you will see them interdispersed in my outfits.

Garden Look

I figured I would make my outfit work twice for me: blog pictures and a little walk: I wanted to get the boys out and take a small dip in the lake (we only put our feet in) and this worked out well. The longer shorts are comfortable and have many pockets. Another black graphic tee completes the monochromatic look.

I once again added colorful shoes and earrings (I gotta to have some color) and my Keens are practical for mowing the lawn or doing any yard work or going in the lake. They are comfortable and can be rinsed off. My earrings are the Earring of the Month from Nickel and Suede and that is usually when I buy a new pair: they are on discount and being on the BFF email list, I get free shipping. The color is called Orchid Blossom. The Keens I bought in kids’ size so they would be less expensive: I have no idea how old they are now: those things are indestructible!

Dressy Monochromatic Look

While this is still a comfortable look because I am wearing my joggers, I tried to use accessories to elevate the look. As I mentioned before, a lot of my clothes (apart from my jeans) are pull on or have an elastic waist. It makes it easier to wear and is more forgiving if you put on a pound or two. Elastic waist does not mean that the look is going to be sloppy: you just have to pair it with tops that have details or or more fitted. The material I think makes a big difference too. Sometimes tucking something in or knotting it will help your outfit stay away from becoming frumpy.

Since this is a summer look I am wearing a tank top and chose one that is of a more dressier material and cut. The accessories I think make all the difference. I chose my snake skin sandals that are a little more dainty than my block heeled or wedge sandals, sparkly earrings and bracelets. In the above picture is the after of my landscaping work this weekend: I added a stone border to our front mulched area (and also added some new mulch). It looks so much cleaner and pretty!

Do you wear all black in summer! I definitely wear more white monochromatic looks than black ones but it sure is fun to experiment and come up with more outfits from my closet!
