Nativity Scenes from Around the World
Today, I thought that I would share my Nativity scenes with you. I like to put them up at the same time as the rest of my Christmas decor so the boys remember the real reason for this time of celebration. I am resharing last year’s post with the addition of one more.
Italy
This is my oldest nativity scene. When my oldest son was 16 months old, we traveled to Italy during the Christmas break to visit my younger brother who lived in Rome at the time. It was fun celebrating Christmas in Italy and we had many fun adventures. I found this small clay nativity scene in a village. The star came off last year and I glued it back on. I love the simplicity of it and the memories associated with it. My husband and I still remember greeting shop keepers and people on the street with Buon Natale!
France
My best friend, Veronique sent me these santons de Noel a couple years ago. These little painted figurines usually originate from Provence, France. They are usually made of terracotta but these appear to be porcelain. The traditional ones have many different characters from a typical French village and that is why many of the figurines do not look like they would be visitors in the small village of Bethlehem.
Cloth Nativity
My mom had one of these years ago and she came across the fabric at JoAnn’s a few years ago. One of my friends helped me sew it together. This nativity is fun for children because it is not breakable and can be played with.
Small Santons de Noel
Here is another French santon de Noel nativity scene which only has 3 people, Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It is terracota and hand painted. The halos are golden carboard and I lost Jesus’. This one is now displayed in my oldest’s bedroom with this Christmas village.
The Boys’ Nativity Scene
This cute nativity scene is in the boys’ bedroom. My mom gifted it to my oldest a few years ago and this year I thought it would be great in my 5 and 8 year old’s room. I have it displayed at play level, on top of their Ikea book shelf which is laid sideways.
My Newest Additions
My husband gave me this one for Christmas last year and I added one to my Christmas wish list for this year.
This last one I made with my Cricut and stained some wood. I made several of these as gifts last year.
Hope you enjoyed these!

Each one is beautiful hard to choose a favorite as they’re all so unique.
The silhouettes look gorgeous against the stained wood. What a beautiful gift!

The wood with silhouettes was one of my favorite present I have made. I just didn’t really think ahead this year sadly.

So many pretty sets! My favorite is the first one, but the one you made yourself with the Cricut is beauitful as well. I have quite a few nativity sets too, and a few years ago after visiting Yellowstone, my mom got me a nativity set where all the people are moose. Sounds goofy but it’s so cute!

Oh wow, Mireille, what a beautiful and meaningful collection of nativity scenes! I really like the Italy one! I have my mother’s Lennox nativity set that I had been buying for her through the years. When she passed away 14 years ago, I kept it for myself but I never finished getting all the pieces. Although I do have most of them. I think I am missing an angel and a few animals. I put it out every Christmas except this year, I just wasn’t feeling it all. I have a few other really old nativity sets as well that were passed to me and Jeff from both of our families. Perhaps one day, I will get them all out on display. I really enjoyed seeing all of your nativity scenes! Thanks for linking and a very Merry Christmas.
