Mommy and Me: Styled for Christmas Downtown and Link Up

For this Holiday Sunday Showcase, Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) and I decided to take pictures in our respective downtown: Detroit for her and my small town downtown for me. It was a windy and cold day for us! Sometimes 40 degrees feels warm and sometimes it is downright freezing! The city was fixing the lights at the bottom of the tree so we had to wait around a little to take our pictures so we got even colder. Still it was a fun and festive photoshoot. And as a special little treat it is a mommy and me post so you get an extra dose of cuteness!

I think it is fun to see how we have to dress differently for where we live. While we both wore warm coats, my layer was fairly light underneath! Don’t forget to hop on over to Ada’s blog post here!

I chose to wear this new brick mosaic print dress from Walmart and paired them with these new boots from Target. They are the Lainee Heeled Scrunch boots and while they are $39.99, I would wait till they go back on sale! I picked them up when they were 30% off and had almost $25 to cash in from my Ibotta account so technically I only paid $3 out of pocket for them! They have a strange texture but are really a comfortable heel and very stylish. As far as the dress, I was at first shocked by a $50 price tag at Walmart but it is really well made and so different than my other dresses that I pulled the trigger in November.

The dress is fully lined, has a cute gathered detail at the wrists and a nice v neckline which is still modest. I hope to wear it soon on a date night!

While I love my red coat, I also really like Ada’s gorgeous red plaid coat. The length is great to keep up warm and toasty and the print is a fun departure from a solid colored coat. I haven’t worn my hats as much now that it has gotten colder (I tend to reach for my beanies) but seeing Ada rock hers with this outfit is reminding me how a cute hat elevates an outfit.

My little buddy is my youngest and is wearing a variety of hand me downs! He either has brand new clothes because his brothers clothes were too old to pass down or wears whatever has made it down the line. His zippered jacket is Calvin Klein and has made it through the 4 boys I think!

My poor little one was freezing when we took pictures but Vivian sure looks toasty in her cute navy coat. I love how it flares and she is styling with those shiny combat boots!

His little jeans are Cat and Jack from Target and I love the plaid detail at the hem. I will say one thing for little boys shoes: I have found it worthwhile to buy brand name shoes such as Nike and Adidas. They seem to be well made and don’t get ruined within a week or two like the tennis shoes from Target seem to have done lately. I either buy them at Ross Dress for Less or online on Amazon when they go on sale.

My coat is old and from JC Penney. I love how warm it is and how it dresses up an outfit. I typically wear it for church but I have worn it sledding too!

This is the typical outfit my son would wear to church or for Christmas day. He has a variety of plaid shirts but this is my favorite of his as it has a more festive color palette.

The ties are really fun on this coat! We have been borrowing movies from the library since there are so many replays on tv and they had some fun decorations. This is a pretty nice Santa!

We never seem to tuck shirts in! We are planning some fun Christmas activities during the break. The boys are really looking forward to the time off from school. I see lots of days in pajamas, movies, crafts and hot cocoa in our future.

I would not recommend this dress on a windy day! It was pretty funny trying to wait for a break on the wind so I wouldn’t look too wild.

I chose Ellibelle’s post: Some of my Favorite Christmas Decorations from Ellibelle’s Corner. I love this nativity scene in particular and some of the other little treasures she shared.
