My New Craft Cabinet: Organizing my Home

My favorite floor is our house is our first floor: when we moved to our house 3 years ago, we decided to use our old couch in the media/game room upstairs and we sold our dining table. That meant we were buying some new furniture, furniture we chose as a couple versus using hand me down from our family or when we were single. We love our farmhouse table (which we found on Craigslist), our little buffet tables that we found at a local shop and our leather couch which gives a nice contrast to that furniture. My husband made a set of barndoors for his mom’s room so everything is cohesive. We love hanging out downstairs! Anyhow, one of the areas that drives me crazy is how it has been difficult to keep the kids’ craft supplies organized and neat as well as my youngest games.

That prompted me to search for a piece of furniture that would help organize and hide the chaos and would look nice in our kitchen. I settled on a 50″ farmhouse style tv stand from Ashley Furniture. It is well built, and I love it! While I think I did well with the price of the tv stand (it was on sale and a couple hundred dollars less than the closest I saw like it), I would by no means call this a very budget friendly purchase: I chose the furniture piece I wanted, the baskets I wanted, the recipe book holder I wanted. It is not often that I let my choice be dictated by what I want versus what is the cheapest but in this case, I have no regrets. I spent probably 8 hours downstairs a day! I see this piece of furniture all day and I love it!

Here are the baskets that I ordered from Target after I saw them in store: they are very sturdy and well made. I went cheap for my labels and used some leftover stickers and marker from my pantry organization and put the stickers on cardboard. I used yarn I had to attach the labels.

I used different mason and yogurt jars for holding our pencils, markers and other craft utensils. The small yogurt jars were gifts from my high school friend in France: I completed them and she shared her stash: I use them to hold things in bathrooms too.

To keep things from getting to messy in the baskets, I picked upt some flexible plastic organizer containers at Target once again.

They are inexpensive, these were $2 a set and make it is to sort and organize things.

I pulled out my favorite cookbooks to encourage me to use them. I do use my Magnolia Table cookbooks all the time but need to use my Rachel Ray one too! The Georgian one was a gift from the author whom I met in the Republic of Georgia and it is a wonderful cookbooks as it shares so much of the culture related to the food there. So many memories associated with that book.

Lastly my new cookbook holder: I knew I wanted something metal and I probably should have waited and looked through some antique shops but I found one that I love on Amazon: instant gratification!

A bientôt!
