February Sunday Showcase: Red and Pink for Valentine’s

For this February Sunday Showcase, Ada and I are showing you a contrast in weather and how we can wear accessories red and pink in winter but in ways that work for where we live. We both love red and I really am a little jealous of some of her red accessories. This year, I have been looking at which colors are missing in my closet and keeping an eye out for them in stores. Don’t forget to stop by Ada’s blog post to see more of her pink and red layers!

A Dressy Look

When Ada suggested a red and a pink look for the February showcase, I decided I would use my credit card rewards points to shop. Finding the right size in this Knox Rose dress was a struggle. I usually size down in this type of dress because there is no waist line but my chest did not fit! I then ordered a small and a medium to try and ended up with the size medium. Then the day after I bought my dress, dresses at Target went on a 30% off sale so I returned so I could get it for that price. I thought it was a nice quality for a pretty fully lined eyelet dress for about $20.

I am sure I will style this again late spring or summer with some cute sandals and accessories. To make it appropriate for the season though, I chose a pair of ankle booties (that I bought on clearance for $11) and my light brown moto jacket.

I am trying to wear some of my different necklaces when the neckline of a top can use it: this is a 5 strand chocker necklace I bought from Nordstrom about 4 years ago. I haven’t worn it but once or twice in the past couple of years. I am finding that displaying my necklaces in a better way has me reaching more for them. I moved all of my long pendants to my wall in my closet which made the shorter necklaces easier to see on their stand.

Of course, anytime we take pictures, there is some wind. My 10 year old really enjoyed this location though and kept wanting to take pictures. That was after he wondered why we were not taking pictures close to our cul de sac. A background change is  fun and this is less than 5 minutes from the house.

So far, I have spent “free money” on clothing this year: selling some items that were unused in our garage is funding my closet and giving us more space in the garage.

Today’s post surely shows the difference in weather between Georgia and Michigan! Ada has had to deal with lots of snow and cold while our weather has gone back and forth for the past month. I love her red accessories and warm layers are key in her part of the US. Fun sunglasses, bright red lipstick: she looks like a star!

Casual Look in Pink

Now this is the most likely outfit I will wear this Valentine’s day: most of the restaurant here are closed on Sundays  and the ones that are opened would probably be too busy. I am thinking maybe some steaks on the back porch and have a little dinner solo after the kids go play upstairs! I think with a couple tweaks, this look can be a little dressier but still super comfy: white jeans and booties will give it that in between feel: casual but dressy!

This outfit combine two newer purchases (from January) from Amazon: Daily Ritual light stone wash jeans and a super soft light sweater tunic. I was able to get the tunic on sale which was nice but unlike my grey jeans, these were full price but still a nice pair for $39.00. I wear them in my regular size 28 and I got them in short length (I am 5’4”).

Wearing one of my first pairs of Nickel and Suede earrings and an old old pair of Caslon slip on sneakers. They are not as comfortable as they used to be as the inside is coming apart but I still like to have them around for different outfits.

The weather has been really weird here and no days are alike. Cold and wet, cold and sunny, mild and wet, mild and sunny and never two days in a row. Makes it difficult to figure out what to wear. I added one of my military jackets for warmth. I figured the pink hood tied in well with the rest of the outfit.

Will be be dining out for Valentines’? Staying in? Doing any thing special? There are many ideas out there for at home date night ideas but I am usually too lazy to make them happen. Maybe we can rent a movie!

I love this unexpected color combo of bright pink and mustard. It is a ray of sunshine on a cold day, isn’t it? While I am looking forward to spring, I actually have been enjoying my winter wardrobe. I wish I wore lipstick because is really good at trying differnt colors. This lighter pink is pretty!

Blogger Feature

I chose Rena’s post Fresh Focus: to the Point (from Fine Whatever) post as my favorite from January’s Link Up. Rena has reinstated her Saturday link up posts and has dedicated a recurring theme for each one: to the point focuses on details that make a piece or outfit unique. She described the hem of her cardigan as a shark hem. I really love these layers and how each piece add interest to her outfit.
