A Visit to Carlton Farms, GA: Fall Fun

On the way to my parents, we pass this farm. Finally after 3 years of passing it by we planned a few hours of fun this fall. The first thing that caught my eye when driving by was the sunflower field so I looked up the activities there online since I saw a sign for a corn maze. After reading all of the activities offered, I didn’t even have to convince the children to come, they all wanted to join in the fun.

We did not get any pumpkins but I couldn’t help but take a picture of this wagon full of white pumpkins: there is something so classy about a white pumpkin! The first order of business was to pay our entrance fee which included all of the activities. With a family of 6 and no one free, it was a little steep but I still think it was worthwhile (despite the youngest meltdown at the end: next time I will bring along some snacks and remember to feed him while we are there even if no one asked for food).

The corn maze was really large and well done. I think next year, we will try to find all of the different checkpoints along the maze (we only came across two) and they come up with a different design each year. The aerial views are very impressive. Since it has been a wet week, my original shoe choice was not great but thankfully I switched to some wipeable sneakers midpoint.

It was fun to watch the boys explore. My oldest ended up leaving us behind and finding the exit 5 minutes before us. We then visited the animals (we did skip the hay ride and farm visit). I enjoyed watching my youngest reaction to the animals. We have visited friends who have chickens, rabbits and goats but it has been a year since we have visited them.

I guess they are not used to seeing shorn sheep as they asked what these were! The enclosure were fairly spacious as well as accessible for us to see the animals and pet them if they came to the fence. The pigs snorted and raced towards our youngest which made us all laugh.

The goats posed for us, unless they were stuck! They remind me of being stuck in a pillory (I actually had to look up the proper word of that punishment tool used in the middle ages): arms and legs stuck.

Most animals let us pet them and I was glad we came as early as we could. Still not as early as I tried but not too bad: it is sometimes difficult to get everyone out of the house in a timely manner. Later on, I could imagine the animals being tired of people.

The kiddie area was fun for all ages: fun bouncing horses of different sizes, a lasso area (my men impressed me with almost succeeding), some ducky races where you pumped the water, some ball/hoops games, slides with feed bags and the “barrel” race area below.

This was really fun and not that difficult to get the hang of it once you figured it out! We took turns to race each other and had some good laughs. There was also a corn cannon where you shoot corn cobs trying to hit the target. The cannon was a metal and pvc contraption and the trigger released compressed air.

A bientôt!
