Holiday Date Night

I have been wanting to style this cute little suede skirt for a post for a while and today is the day! I plan to take this on our winter trip to North Carolina next week (we are going to hopefully have some snow fun!) and have a date night with the hubby. The skirt would have been better in size medium but I bought it on sale and not all size were on sale at the time so size small was it.

I have a couple of other ideas to style this, one of which is casual with sneakers and a graphic tee and another with booties but for today, I played with black and the color of the skirt. My top was another hand me down from my friend whose closet we cleaned this summer and I really like the batwing sleeves and the sequins. I was just thinking how it would look nice with a pair of dark jeans and my beige boots.

For a little of extra coverage, I can add my long vest (whose first life was a dress). I am so happy to find different ways to wear it. I was just thinking as I put this outfit together (which was not my original idea) how making sure to only keep what I like and wear in my closet makes my life easier. After 2 months of no shopping I did pick up a few things at a consigment store and these boots at Target when they were 50% off and I found several things that were still hanging in my closet that needed to go.

I pulled a few golden bracelets and a pair of black Nickel and Suede earrings to complete the look. I am really going to try to schedule a date night once a month from now on and I hope I will stick to it. I always want to do it but life gets in the way and I often forget to make that time. But it is fun to get dressed up a little and to have conversations uninterrupted by children!

I don’t dress up very often but it is fun to have a few special pieces that instantly elevate an outfit. I am going to make that a focus when thrifting: finding statement pieces that I wouldn’t want to pay full price because I won’t wear them as often. Pieces that are special because of the material or bling!

Our weather has been all over the place! I am hoping it will be cold in North Carolina so the vest will probably be replaced with my black puffer coat. I haven’t had much of a chance to wear scarves even less real coats and jackets as the cool mornings often give way to pleasant afternoons. Who knew 40 degrees could feel pleasant? Now if you have wind then it is cold but there have been days where just a long sleeves top has been enough.

A bientôt!
