Staying Warm with a Blanket Scarf

Since the Sunday Showcase link up is postponed till next Sunday, I decided to go ahead and my regular post on Sunday instead of Monday for those who might be looking for the link up and might be wondering. This is kind of weird to post this outfit as it is unseasonably warm this weekend with spring like weather in the upper 70s.

I wasn’t planning to take pictures when we went to the Georgia Aquarium a couple of weeks ago but when we arrived and saw all of the pretty ornaments in the green in front of the aquarium and the Coca Cola building, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. I took some pictures of the boys and my oldest was nice enough to take pictures of me too. It was actually quite cold and we didn’t bring our jackets since we didn’t want to carry them around inside but thankfully I was wearing my blanket scarf!

Some people might say blanket scarves are things of the past but I wear what I enjoy and feel looks good. I cut this blanket scarf in 2 when I bought it about 5 years ago so it wouldn’t be so heavy and bulky and it is still plenty warm with just half the material.

I had not planned to take any blog pictures today since we have been several times to the aquarium this year and I have written blog posts about it so I did not put any real thoughts into what I was wearing. I knew I wanted to wear my new thrifted Talbot sweater (which I scored for $2) and added a tank under for extra warmth. The knit is not tight so I was glad for that extra layer.

I succumbed to buying my third pair of wedge sneakers this year this time in black. To clarify, my other 2 pairs are several years old but I wanted a black pair! I have worn them enough to justify the purchase and will continue to wear them. See my cool new crossbody purse? I love it! I picked it up at a local boutique in our town. I thought about sending my hubby there to choose one for me for Christmas but then decided I better choose the one I wanted. I am glad I did since I was wavering between 4 of them before I picked this one which was not the first that I had planned to get.

This outfit worked really well for the aquarium since I was not overly warm and it was easy to unwrap the scarf if I was. For the brief time we were outside, it was perfect.

I then had to kiss Santa and send a picture to my husband! These ornaments were really cool! They are so big that they make a great impact in the space.

The boys and I discussed taking more trips downtown. There are really a lot of things to see. They would like to go up in one of the tall buildings to see the views of the city. I told we will try to go up the Westin hotel next time we come down.

We enjoyed our visit of the aquarium as we met some friends we hadn’t seen since the summer. We then had lunch at Ikea and shopped a little and headed back home for some down time. Since we didn’t stay too long in either places, I was not feeling too exhausted (the lights and all the sensory activities at the aquarium can be a little much if you stay a long while). We headed up and had some computer time followed by dinner.

A bientôt!

Mireille, I love this cute cozy outfit and all of these fun festive photos with the giant ornaments! I am a big fan of blanket scarves as well. I don’t care if they are a thing of the past. My cold chills are a thing of the present and I need to be warm! I really like that you cut the scarf in half to reduce the bulk. That is a great idea! Diid you cut it on the diagnol so each piece is a triangle or did you make two long rectangle pieces? And what a great find on your Talbots sweater! It is a lovely color on you. And finally, I absolutely adore your new crossbody bag! I would wear that anyday! Wishing you all the best in the year!

Yes, I cut the scarf into 2 triangles! Once I did that I noticed how much more I wore it. I love that shade of yellow and was surprised at how good of a deal it was since I forgot I picked it up in the clearance section of the Revive store. Have a happy new year!

I really like how scarf often keep me warm enough when I am not going to be outside for too long on a cold day.

Ha ha! Those ornaments sure were perfect for pictures. Cut the scarf in diagonal and you can gift the other half! Made such a difference!

I LOVE this sweater! Such a great color and what a great price for a Talbot sweater too! The yellow color looks so pretty paired with black. And how fun are those huge ornament decorations!

I’m a bid jealous of your nice weather you currently have! We were greeted with a snowstorm on New Year’s Day and now it’s gotten sooooo cold!!
    Happy New Year!!

Well, we finally got the cold but no snow very sadly. Can’t believe both Alabama and Tennessee got snow but not us!

    • mimifce

Yes, just a cut in diagonal! A lot of time, I do not need a coat here if I wear a scarf especially in and out of the car.

These are fabulous pictures! I love a blanket scarf and now that I am in Arizona that is all the extra warmth I need! But I did love them layered up with coats when I was living in the mountains.

    Peace!

I love your outfit; I have one blanket scarf and I do like that keeps me so warm! Those giant ornaments are so neat.

The ornaments are usch a fun backdrop and I really like that cheerful yellow knit on you! I love a good cosy blanket scarf too, I know they aren’t as trendy any more but I think they will be around forever as they are so cosy, haha!

Hope that your week is going well and 2022 is off to a good start for you! 🙂

The yellow shade of the sweater was really pretty! Whether they are on trend or not, if I like it, i wear it!

What a fun place to visit! I love their seasonal decor. Your son is so sweet taking your photos for you. It’s so cool that they want to help out and these pictures turned out great! I am on the fence about blanket scarf and it’s not because I don’t love them. I do! Just it can be overwhelming on me. It’s probably only because I don’t style it correctly! I hope you guys had a great holiday season and happy 2022!

It helps that I pay the boys for pictures! They are getting better at it and I pay them for that instead of allowance. Since the oldest does the blog pics too, he does pretty well every month.

Cute outfit!! I live in Georgia, and easy layering pieces (like the blanket scarf) are just the right thing for our mild winters and changeable weather. We can go from 40 degrees to 70 degrees in just a few hours. And — the Georgia Aquarium is a favorite place for us.

Thanks, Carol! Just like today: a chunky scarf in the am was perfect than took it off because too hot then needed it again later!

That sweater looks like the perfect piece for this unseasonably warm winter. I am wondering if I will get to wear my blanket scarves at all this season. It was 64* here yesterday. I have wanted some wedge tennies for a year or two. Where did you find yours? They are super cute. Need to get a good deal on them because I am still recuperating from overspending over the holidays.

WE have had some cold days too. The wedge tennis I have are from either DSW or Nordstrom depending on which. These sneakers, I don’t remember. None of the good wedge sneakers were cheap though around $50 but Target and Walmart has some more affordable ones.

I think blanket scarves are brilliant and totally versatile. Yours is super cute and goes so well with your yellow sweater. I really like your black wedge sneakers too. And what a fabulous location for photos!
    Happy New Year, Mireille!

Thanks, Jess! I really couldn’t pass up the oppotunity to take pictures. I think I need to wear the sweater again this week! Could be pretty with white jeans!
