March and April Budget Recap
At the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted to keep track of how much I was spending on clothes and what I was buying. I also wanted to decide whether I regretted any of my purchases and wanted to spend less retail and more thrifting. Sadly I haven’t done much thrifting but have bought more second hand as on Poshmark and Ebay (see my January/February recap). KellyAnn (here is her last Closet Confessions) inspired me to share my clothes budget recap to help me be more accountable and to give you another real insight on what others spend on clothes and why they make certain purchases.
Please remember this is not for the sake of comparison or to judge what one person spends or doesn’t spend but is more to help me (and in the process you) determine whether a purchase was a good buy or a mistake and to help make decisions for the following month. Without further ado, this is what I bought:
March
I had $100 cash gift to spend on myself: this is what I purchased:
- Time and Tru white sneakers (Walmart) 19.99: they replaced a pair of white sneakers I had and they have a nice memory foam sole. I love them!
- Blowfish olive slip on sneakers (linking similar pairs on Amazon). I bought mine at a local boutique and are really cute with no laces and distressed detail 40.00
- Blowfish Sandals on sale 25.00 (same boutique). I wore them on Pascha and at the botanical gardens. They are edgy and will get lots of wear.
- Red tie Dye sleeveless dress on sale 16.00 (same boutique)
Total: 0.00
Social Threads Cognac espadrilles: Cute but I should have read the reviews and skipped them: they run small and I ordered the size 6.5 (I usually can wear 6.5 or 7). They are small and I am not sure I often I will wear them: I may try to resale them but I wore them a couple of times instead of returning them! $59
March total: $59
I guess I need to dedicate a post to those 4 pairs of shoes at some point in May with some outfit inspiration!
April
I will preface April’s buy with the excuse (lol) that most of these items were bought on vacation where money always seems to flow more freely!
Spring Break Purchases (TN)
- UmgeeWrap Dress at a boutique: I love the dress and have worn it twice already. I will be wearing it for Mother’s Day and will be sharing it in our Ageless Style Link Up in May. 60.00
- Sneakers (TJMaxx) 19.99
- Floral skirt (TJMaxx) 16.99 shared in this post: I have worn it several times: great buy!
- Souvenir Sweatshirt $15
- Express Dress and body suit: I wore the dress on Pascha and you will see it next week in a birthday post for Ada (Elegance and Mommyhood) $70. I haven’t worn the grey tank bodysuit yet.
At home purchase:
- Target black sandals: to replace two pairs I had to get rid of because they were too flat and hurt my feet 24.99
Total : $207
So yes, I spent more than I would like in April but hey, I was on vacation! I do not regret those purchases (apart from that pair of wedge espadrilles in March) since I have worn each items at least 2 times and know that I will wear them again and again.
My goal though for May is solely thrift!
A bientôt!

Apart from those sandals, I have no regrets and feel very content with my closet so I think I should be able to stick to my plan for May. Will stop by one consignment store with my mom next week.

May I am not allowing myself to buy anything unless I need it. I’m going out of town next week and that’s already costing me lots of money!

Yes, money does always flow a bit more freely on vacation doesn’t it?!

Budget posts are always interesting because even though people are coming from very different places with it, it’s helpful to see how people are thinking about/evaluating their spending.

Yes: I enjoy seeing why people purchase what they do and if they feel it was a good decision. Since everyone comes from a different budget and lifestyle what works for one doesn’t work for another.

Shoes can be tough to order online but I’ve also found fabulous ones. I do try to take them back right away if they don’t work but it’s smart to try to resell them too!!
It’s funny how we both have been getting new shoes lately!!
XOXO

I have better some months when I feel better about my spending than others. I have been working on my post about the shoes this week and this next one, it is fun putting together outfits starting with the shoe!
