ZooAtlanta and Sean Kenney’s Nature Pop (Legos)
We were due a visit to the zoo so we took advantage of a Friday to head early to ZooAtlanta to enjoy the Sean Kenney’s Nature Pop lego exhibition. There are 40 sculptures spread around the zoo in bright colors. The exhibition will be there till August 8th. There were some 3D sculptures as well as some 2D ones and the children and I definitely had a favorite which I will share first!
I think the polar bears were made with more than 100,000 lego pieces and we loved how it depicts a mama bear with her 3 cubs. My husband and I often call our boys our bears so this one definitely has our heart. We also love the colors used for this sculpture. We have seen lego exhibitions in zoos before (I remember one in Jacksonville that was really impressive and colors were life like) but the quirkiness of these colorful ones was fun.
Sean Kenny is the author of children’s books and resides in Amsterdam. He has several traveling exhibitions right now that will travel around the US over the next couple of years. The sculpture above depicts a pangolin: have you heard of pangolins before? I was first introduced to this creature on the kids show Wild Kratts. Pangolins are often refered as scaly anteaters and are a very interesting looking creature.
The dodo bird (an extinct bird) and the rose were also special to us. We learned about dodo birds from the Wild Kratts brothers too and I thought the rose was very beautiful: I didn’t realize at first that the stem was made of legos too!
The 3D zebra was imposing and really nice to compare with the 2D zebra below. I told my boys they should try to create flat pictures with their legos: I may have to give them a little push and show them how!
We don’t like spiders but isn’t this garden spider beautiful? I love the background color!
Here are another few that caught our eye. I will say that I like the lego sculptures more when they are in life like colors and I thought that were one too many lego rabbits!
I will leave you with a non lego creature: the leopard. We usually have a hard time seeing the leopard but he decided to take a potty break allowing to get a good picture of him:
If you want to see another really fun exhibition at the Atlanta Zoo, head to my post here sharing the Illuminights exibition this winter which was an exhibition of Chinese Lanterns.
A bientôt!

Those Lego sculptures are amazing! I’m going to share this with my sister, since her 4 and 6 year old boys love Legos and zoos. I wasn’t aware that 2D Lego pictures was a thing – very interesting! But I can never agree that there are too many rabbits! 😀

Lol! I know your love of rabbits!
