Impromptu Float Down the River
This past weekend, my Goddaughter came for a visit. I have seen her grown from a cute little baby to now a beautiful young woman who will get married in 6 months! On Saturday, we decided to go float down the river. I usually am a planner but try to be more spontaneous and when my husband made the suggestion, we decided to give it ago despite threats of rain. It was an overcast day not too hot so it would make the float more pleasant.
Since it was imprompu, we didn’t really think it through and had to go back to the house for our river sticks and paddles, a tube to replace one that had a leak and my phone holder. We still managed to forget towels for the ride back but thankfully I had 2 in the car we use after sports and runs. It also helps that where we get in the river is literally 2 minutes from the house.
As usual, we enjoyed the first leisure part more than the second half: that is when you try to remember after which river bend is before the ramp/launch where we drop off our 2nd car to get out. At that point we are often ready espceially that the river can be very slow as was the case this time. We did see some wildlife, mainly geese, a heron and a multitude of colorful dragonflies.
I didn’t wear sunscreen and got a little burnt but we really enjoyed this float as the 3 youngest stayed home. No complaints on this ride! The corps of engineering release the lake’s water at the dam several times a week and below you can see how high the river can reach. It is wild!
It took longer than we expected so we got some exercise by arm rowing in the water to get ourselves moving faster. We went home and had a first:
They taste like the dark meat on chicken! Now I can say I have tried frog legs!
A bientôt!

Looks like a fun adventure with your goddaughter and I’m sure it was relaxing not having to keep an eye on the boys. Never did try frog legs but think I remember some of my family tried them when I was a child.

Definitely nice to do it without them for once.

What a fun day! It looks very relaxing and pleasant. It’s been years since I had frog legs. They are really quite tasty if memory serves.

Well, apart from getting sunburnt in one spot, it was really fun!

Sounds like a wonderful time! I am a planner too so I hear you on choosing to embrace the sponteneity of the situation.

It was kind of funny forgetting several things as it was spur of the moment but it all worked out in the end.

It’s good to be a tad spontaneous at times. And very adventurous to eat the frog legs. I bet they are good because in all reality, it’s just muscle like all the other animals we eat.

Exactly! I don’t each much fried food so wouldn’t mind trying them another way but they were not bad!

They usually will try at least a bite! And this was something very different for them.

I love floating down a river. We haven’t done it in years so we need to revisit the state park near us that does it (nowhere near as yours though)!

Yes, it is pretty hard to meet the 2 minute drive down the hill!
