Shoes: My Essential Pairs to take me through the Seasons
I was thinking about shoes the other day as I was reaching for one of my favorites to wear and wondered which 10 I would keep if they were the only pairs I could keep. It really was not difficult for me to choose those pairs which led me to realize that there were probably at least 10 pairs I could part with without regrets. I did count my pairs of shoes after this exercise and was surprised to see that I had 47 pairs of shoes. Some I do not wear very often even in season such as my Sorel snow boots or some of my heeled sandals. Some I keep mostly for special occasions or blog photo shoots but the 10 I am sharing today are my favorites and these pairs would take be through the whole year, rain or shine.
Sandals
The Steve Madden pair was from DSW last year or the year prior and are a short comfortable wedge. I love how the stripes add interest to any summer outfit. The Blowfish Sandals were on sale at a local boutique but you can find them on Amazon here and are fun, edgy and comfortable for daily activities or sight seeing.
Sneakers
Just like the sandals, these sneakers can be worn with shorts, pants, skirts and dresses! The shoes I have chosen are all versatile and these sneakers really can be worn year round in Georgia. Everyone should have a pair of white sneakers and this Walmart pair replaced my Addidas pair. The tan pair was a TJMaxx find and is fun because of the lug sole. They are not as comfortable but I like them because of their originality.
Booties
Interestingly enough, the category with the most shoes I would want to keep is my booties. I usually wear them starting October through early Spring. The first pair I bought when I met Yenni from IdeasValyen and love the beautiful embroidery. I have yet to wear them since I bought them this summer. This second pair I reach for over and over last year and is from Walmart but are not sold anymore.
Two very different booties, both patterned. They can add a lot of fun to your outfits! The first pair was from Target a couple years ago and while the lower shaft is not supposed to be as trendy this year I do not care. I wear these all of the time. The leopard pair I found on clearance at Nordstrom and are rain resistant so I love wearing them on rainy days: a lot cuter than a pair of rainboots!
Boots
Last but not least tall boots: if I could only keep two pairs, these would be the one. I love the riding boots with their details (Sole Society) and the Target black boots are comfortable and versatile. I have them in tan as well. These both look great with jeans or skirts/dresses which make them a great choice to have.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my favorite shoes! While I probably will not get rid of any of my others anytime soon (I usually throw out shoes when they have past their prime or I donate when my style has changed), this was a fun little project making me aware that I could definitely live with a lot less!

Ha Ha! AFter writing the post I realize there were another 2 pairs I didn’t count and yesterday I bought a thrifted pair of mules!

You got me curious about my footwear count. Luckily I have a spreadsheet tab which takes care of these calculations. 58 pairs of shoes, 11 pairs of boots for 69 total. But that doesn’t include all of my functional pairs – I probably have another 8 or so if I count hiking shoes, rain boots, and snow boots. My sandal count is a big fat zero though! Getting down to the top 10 would be a challenge for me.

I did forget 2 pairs downstairs and I bought a pair of thrifted mules this weeek so now I am bout to 50. It’s funny how I got a couple ladies curious to count theirs.

What a fun post! I know right off the top of my head which shoes I’d pick and sadly most of them would be flip flops (which aren’t great weather-wise) up here! LOL.

Funny! I have one pair of flip of flops lol.

It cracks me up that “articles” will say that the lower shaft on boots isn’t trendy. Like anyone really notices that, haha.
I’m so impressed that you could narrow it down like this. I just love all of my shoes (and I am 100% certain I have a tad more than 47 pairs)

I’ve worn them a few times for upcoming posts but in real life will have to wait a couple months for it to cool down.

I might donate a couple but probably not.

You have a great collection of shoes! I’m not really a shoe person so I don’t have many, but I have found that I’ve been wearign a lot of sneakers almost non-stop recently – it’s better for my old knee injury and it fits perfectly with the casual working from home everyday lifestyle after 2002, haha! I have been lucky to add a few thrifted pairs to my wardrobe recently but I really need to try shake things up a bit and wear something other than sneakers, ha!
Hope you are having a good weekend 🙂

I do have quite a few pairs lol!

Go count them! I am actually going to take a good look today and see if one or 2 pairs need to go: I think some have not been worn in a couple years.

Mireille,
You’ve got my wheels spinning with this topic. I have over 110 pairs of shoes/boots/sandals so you could call me the queen of excess when it comes to footwear. I could definitely thin out about a 1/3 of them and I may actually tackle that in the near future. Thanks for the inspiration.

I was looking at mine today and I will donate one pair or 2 I haven’t worn but in pictures in the last 2 years. Then to look at my purses. I actually don’t have many (but I just bought 2 for my birthday) but only want to keep the ones I love.
