One and Done with the Ageless Link Up
Joanne suggested the theme one and done for July: this could be a dress, a jumpsuit or a romper. Since I had not shared this cute little thrifted mini dress yet, I thought this month’s link-up would be the perfect opportunity. I found this dress on a thrifting trip with my friend in Chattanooga. They actually had it in her size too, but she chose not to buy it. Since the length is really short, I added a pair of thin white biker shorts to make it more modest.
The advantage to a one and done piece of clothing is that you do not have to worry about adding a completer piece or think about color coordination. In my case, since I added the white biker shorts, I decided that my white sneakers would finish the look. I wore this on a day of errands on a mild stormy summer day.
Since it was such a summery summer look, I added my Amazon circle bag. I have had this purse for a number of years now and it is often on rotation during summer. It fits a wallet, keys and a phone pretty well and stays closed. I kept my earrings simple by choosing a pair of natural leather earrings.
The back of the dress is really fun and covers my strapless bra well. I am thinking I may need to bring this dress to the beach this fall if the weather is mild. Despite the cutouts, I felt pretty well covered, but did bring a cardigan along to the boys’ eye doctor appointments in case I got cold.
I have been working on incorporating some core exercises in my routine this summer. Earlier last month, at one of our running club meeting, a guest speaker reminded us the importance of a strong core when running. Having a strong core will reduce the likelihood of leg injuries since you have different muscles working instead of just your legs and hips. I have added lunges at the end of most runs and am trying hard to do at least 3 days of ab/arm/core workouts. Those workouts are very short, between 5 and 20 minutes.
I bought these biker shorts during my no shop summer, but I have no regrets: they really do allow me to wear certain things more comfortably: case in point, I wore them under one of my skirts with a long slit for church. They really do expand my wardrobe.
The biker shorts might work under some of my longer tunics too and are more practical than my capri leggings on hot days. I wore a little stack of beaded bracelets that echoed the colors in the dress. This sure was a fun summer outfit!

They do make dresses ridicously short these days, or maybe it feels that way to someone like me who has both a long torso and long legs. I love the colors/pattern in your dress.

I know that I would not be comfortable with the shorts under.

That is such a darling dress! Love the pattern and back detail! So cute styled with the biker shorts!

Thank you! It’s very different than everything else in my closet.

This is such a cute summer look on you, and the dress was a great thrift find! Loved the inspiration from all of the Ageless Style ladies-it’s perfect timing for one and done outfits, as the temperature soars. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your week!

Yes, the heat and humidity make dresses more practical. The biker shorts are thin enough that they don’t make the heat worse.

Such a cute summer dress! I love creativity and adding the biker shorts. Great idea!

Thanks, Rosemary! The biker shorts have been practical.

This is such a cute outfit! I could not imagine wearing that minidress without some cute shorts or something like that underneath.

Exactly. Marsha had a great idea to add a dress extender.

OMG, the back is so modern and fun. I just love the cutouts that make a dress have a bit of sass like that.

What a fabulous dress, Mireille! I really like the smocked bodice and the back is amazing! Remember those dress extenders? If you have one of those, that could look really cool, too!

Thank you, Marsha! And that is a great idea! I need to add one to my closet.

Ok, WOW! I love this on you! Esp the idea to add white biker shorts (white looks so good with it, where I think black wouldn’t have blended with the colors as well) to it. The back side is cute too and I was expecting it! Love!

Thank you, Carrie! I think white was perfect or another light colored neutral would have worked. I settled on white because they will be the most versatile!

Cute, cute, cute Love that you paired it with the sneakers and biker shorts to make it easy to move around in. I buy a lot of things off of buy and sells but rarely go into thrift stores. Have a fun weekend ahead.

Hoping to stay cool here, lol, will only happen if I stay indoors.

I often forget to show accessories with my outfits. Never remember to grab a purse!! And I have lots of cute bracelets but forget to wear them.
I really like this look. Very clever to take a shorter dress and wear it like a tunic top. The print is so summery and sweet. And you look terrific.
Every week when I make my weekly to-do list, I tell myself I am going to start back at doing crunches and leg lifts to strengthen my core. And every week that is something that doesn’t get checked off the list. It is almost like I am oppositionally defient. Just refusing to take 5 minutes to help myself. Whatever you are doing, you look very fit.

I often forget to add a purse for my post if I am taking pictures at home. I do a lot better if I go “on location”. Thanks for the compliment! I am really trying to get a good routine but last week, I sure did not succeed! No core work and my attempt to run was lame. This coming week is a new week and I will do better!

I love the idea of biker shorts to add modesty to a look, Mireille. Your look is beautiful and fun! And I love one and done styles. I have so many dresses, rompers, and jumpsuits. 🙂

Thanks, Lizzy! They have really come in handy: there were a couple skirts and dresses I didn’t reach for that now I pair with them.

That is such a cute mini dress! I love the floral print and the shorts underneath are a good idea. My sister just bought some the other day for under her shorter dresses, I have been thinking about getting some too, as an alternative to the slips I wear under my dresses. I think the shorts will be better for summer! 🙂
